Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyEarly neonatal outcomes of volume guaranteed ventilation in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome.
Volume guaranteed (VG) synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation (SIMV) is a novel mode of SIMV that provides automatic adjustment of the peak inspiratory pressure for ensuring a minimum set tidal volume and there are limited data about the effects of VG ventilation on short term neonatal outcomes in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). ⋯ In conclusion, VG ventilation in combination with surfactant treatment significantly reduced both duration of mechanical ventilation and early neonatal oxygen related morbidities including BPD, ROP and IVH in preterm infants with RDS. This data favors the use of VG ventilation in respiratory support of premature infants.

Randomized Controlled TrialDoes vaginal preparation with povidone-iodine prior to caesarean delivery reduce the risk of endometritis? A randomized controlled trial.
The purpose of the present study was to determine whether the vaginal preparation with povidone-iodine prior to caesarean delivery decreased the incidence of postpartum endometritis. ⋯ Vaginal preparation with povidone-iodine solution immediately prior to a caesarean delivery reduces the risk of post-operative endometritis. This preemptive measure was only found to be beneficial in women whose membranes had ruptured and those who were in labor prior to caesarean surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialPreoperative analgesia with local lidocaine infiltration for post cesarean delivery pain management.
To evaluate the impact of local lidocaine incision-site injection in patients undergoing cesarean deliveries (CD), on post operative pain and analgesic requirements. ⋯ Pre-emptive analgesia with local incision-site injection with lidocaine does not seem beneficial in reducing post cesarean pain scores and analgesic requirements.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyEffect of early versus conventional epidural analgesia during labor on cytokine production.
To compare the effect of early epidural analgesia (EEA) vs. conventional epidural analgesia (CEA) on cytokine production in mother and neonate. ⋯ Although there was no significant difference in cytokine levels between the groups, EEA prevented the significant increase in IL-6 during labor and interrupted IL-6 fetal-maternal dependency.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEfficacy and safety of oral iron(III) polymaltose complex versus ferrous sulfate in pregnant women with iron-deficiency anemia: a multicenter, randomized, controlled study.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of iron(III) polymaltose complex (Maltofer(®)) versus ferrous sulfate in iron-deficient pregnant women using recommended doses. ⋯ Oral iron(III) polymaltose complex offers at least equivalent efficacy and a superior safety profile compared to ferrous sulfate for the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia during pregnancy.
