Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of induction of labor with vaginal misoprostol plus oxytocin versus oxytocin alone in term primigravidae.
To compare the efficacy and complications of intravaginal misoprostol application before starting oxytocin infusion with oxytocin infusion alone for labor induction in term primigravidae pregnancies with low-Bishop score. ⋯ Intravaginal application of 50-μg misoprostol before starting oxytocin infusion is a more effective method of labor induction than oxytocin infusion alone in term primigravidae pregnant women with low-Bishop scores.

Randomized Controlled TrialPreoperative analgesia with local lidocaine for cesarean delivery pain relief.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether local analgesia at the incision site could reduce pain in women undergoing cesarean delivery or not. ⋯ Preemptive analgesia with lidocaine infiltration at the incision is a simple and efficient mode with few side-effects that may reduce pain and opioid requirements in women undergoing CS.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of supplementation with selenium on postpartum depression: a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial.
Postpartum depression is a common complication of childbirth, and its prevention is an important public-health issue because of its negative effects on mother, infant, and family. The present randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted to examine the effect of prenatal selenium supplementation on the postpartum depression level in Iranian women. ⋯ These findings suggest that supplementation with selenium during pregnancy might be an effective approach for the prevention of postpartum depression.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyIntrathecal hyperbaric or isobaric bupivacaine and ropivacaine with fentanyl for elective caesarean section.
We aimed to investigate the efficacy of either plain or hyperbaric solutions of intrathecal bupivacaine and ropivacaine on maternal block characteristics, complications, side effects and neonatal parameters to find out which is superior in a single study. ⋯ Intrathecal hyperbaric ropivacaine 15 mg with fentanyl 20 μg for CSE is suitable since it provides early motor recovery leading to faster patient ambulation, rapid onset of sensory block with less ephedrine.

Randomized Controlled TrialGeneral versus spinal anaesthesia for elective caesarean sections: effects on neonatal short-term outcome. A prospective randomised study.
To compare neonatal short-term outcome in patients who underwent spinal, general anaesthesia and conversion from spinal to general anaesthesia. ⋯ All kinds of anaesthesia seem to be safe, but loco-regional blockade shows more advantages on the neonatal outcome also when a conversion is necessary.
