Meta AnalysisThe impact of routine childhood immunization with higher-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccines on antimicrobial-resistant pneumococcal diseases and carriage: a systematic literature review.
Introduction: The introduction of 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) in childhood immunization programs reduced antimicrobial-resistant pneumococcal infections by vaccine serotypes. However, emerging antimicrobial-resistant non-vaccine serotypes, particularly serotype 19A, attenuated the overall effect. In 2010, higher-valent PCVs became available containing serotypes that are prone to become antimicrobial-resistant, like serotype 7F in PCV10 and PCV13, and serotype 19A in PCV13. ⋯ Only few studies have documented the impact of PCV10 on AMR. Multiple factors may influence observed decreases in pneumococcal AMR including antimicrobial stewardship, case definition, time since PCV10/13 introduction, and pre-PCV10/13 AMR levels. This review emphasizes the importance of including impact on AMR when evaluating the full public health of pneumococcal vaccination programs.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyEfficacy and effectiveness of high-dose versus standard-dose influenza vaccination for older adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Influenza is responsible for a significant disease burden annually, especially in older adults. This study reviews the relative vaccine efficacy or effectiveness (rVE) of high-dose inactivated trivalent influenza vaccine (HD-IIV3) compared to standard-dose influenza vaccines (SD-IIV3) in adults ≥65 against influenza-associated outcomes to inform evidence-based decision-making to shift clinical practice and standard of care in this population. ⋯ Available evidence suggests HD-IIV3 is more effective than SD-IIV3 at reducing the clinical outcomes associated with influenza infection in older adults and should be considered for routine use in the 65+ population.

Meta AnalysisImmunogenicity and reactogenicity of tetravalent vaccine for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV) in healthy children: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Varicella is a highly infectious childhood disease. Tetravalent measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV) vaccine was introduced as one-syringe dose. ⋯ The immunogenicities of MMRV and MMR+V vaccines were comparable in healthy children; however, MMRV vaccination showed higher incidences of fever and rash.

Meta AnalysisStructural differences among cost-effectiveness models of human papillomavirus vaccines.
In this article we compare previously published cost-effectiveness studies of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines along a defined subset of key model structural assumptions relating to HPV infection and disease, cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination. For each structural aspect examined, we summarize assumptions from each study, provide a critical review and discuss the impact upon results. ⋯ Holding constant factors for which current data are lacking, the combined impact of assumptions made for the remaining parameters examined would appear to tend toward underestimation of the cost-effectiveness of HPV vaccination within existing studies. However, uncertainty concerning parameters, such as the duration of vaccine protection and acquired immunity following HPV infection, and the relationship between age and HPV virulence, complicates precise estimation of the cost-effectiveness of HPV vaccination and rigorous evaluation of the validity of existing modeling results.
