Randomized Controlled Trial
Propofol and dexmedetomidine for monitored anesthesia care during laser in situ keratomileusis.
The safety and efficacy of dexmedetomidine during laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in stressed patients under topical anesthesia has not been fully investigated. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine in conjunction with topical anesthesia offered better conscious sedation for nervous patients during LASIK, but these patients required a longer recovery period.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Comparison of the effects of dorzolamide-timolol fixed combination and brimonidine on intraocular pressure after phacoemulsification surgery.
To compare the effects of dorzolamide-timolol combination and brimonidine on intraocular pressure (IOP) after phacoemulsification surgery. ⋯ Prophylactic treatment with dorzolamide-timolol fixed combination was more effective than brimonidine in reducing IOP 6 hours and 24 hours after phacoemulsification surgery.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Adverse events and discontinuations during 18 months of silicone hydrogel contact lens wear.
To report differences in the incidence of adverse events and discontinuations found in a group of neophyte contact wearers using two different silicone hydrogel contact lenses on a daily- and continuous-wear basis during an 18-month period. ⋯ Lotrafilcon A lenses were associated with a higher incidence of adverse events than balafilcon A lenses were, and this difference is attributed to the difference in the incidence of corneal infiltrative events. Subjects wearing lenses on a daily-wear basis had fewer adverse events than did subjects wearing lenses on a continuous-wear basis. Both lens types and wearing regimens showed a similar incidence of discontinuations.

Contact lens care products effect on corneal sensitivity and patient comfort.
To evaluate the possible effect of two leading soft contact lens care products on corneal sensitivity, relative comfort, and superficial corneal staining in adapted disposable soft contact lens wearers. ⋯ ReNu MultiPlus, a biguanide-based contact lens care product, was associated with decreased comfort during midday and end-of-day periods. ReNu MultiPlus was also associated with significant reduction in relative corneal sensitivity compared to Polyquad-based OPTI-FREE Express. Disturbance to normal corneal sensitivity may play a role in contact lens-related dry eye and discomfort. Further investigation is warranted.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial
The comparison of overnight lens modalities (COLM) study.
The Comparison of Overnight Lens Modalities (COLM) Study is a controlled, randomized, clinical pilot study to determine the sample size required to perform a multicenter clinical trial comparing Paragon CRT lenses with CIBA Vision Focus NIGHT and DAY 30-day continuous-wear silicone hydrogel lenses. ⋯ The NEI RQL-42 may be able to detect differences in refractive quality of life between two contact lens treatment groups for the dependence-on-correction scale. Paragon CRT and CIBA Vision Focus NIGHT and DAY lenses produced similar high- and low-contrast visual acuity in this study. A sample size of 126 subjects per group is required to find a 10-unit difference on the NEI RQL-42.
