Dorsal column (dcSCS) and dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRG-S) complications are similar, typically related to placement and device failure. We present the first case of tinnitus after DRG-S implantation. The patient presented with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) type 2. ⋯ After permanent implantation, she reported persistent, intolerable left-sided tinnitus. Tinnitus can be modulated by secondary somatosensory inputs to the cochlear nucleus from the dcSCS. Therefore, lumbosacral DRG-S stimulating distal sensory neurons leading to tinnitus is a feasible complication.

Hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsy (HNPP) is a rare peripheral neurological disorder that manifests with increased sensitivity to pressure. In people with this disorder, the peripheral nerves are unusually sensitive to pressure. ⋯ We describe for the first time, postoperative vocal cord paralysis in a patient with HNPP due to left recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy. Anesthesiologists and surgeons should be aware of this possible complication in patients with HNPP.

This is the first case report describing an aryepiglottic cyst resulting in critical airway compromise after an uneventful tracheal intubation. We present the case of a 55-year-old woman who developed acute dyspnea and stridor several hours after the surgery. She was found to have significant upper airway obstruction owing to a large left aryepiglottic cyst with a ball-valve effect.

We performed a prospective Internet survey study of anesthesiologists lactating in 2022 or 2023. Approximately half (48%, 75 of 156) lacked convenient dedicated lactation space and approximately half (55%, 86 of 155) used a wearable breast pump. ⋯ When using during cases, approximately half reported that milk production was sufficient to substitute for lactation pumping sessions (52%, 39 of 75). Based on probability distributions of surgical times, future research can evaluate the usefulness of wearable pumps based on the objective of reducing anesthesiologists' durations of lactation sessions to <15 minutes.

Spondylometaphyseal dysplasia (SMD) is a rare genetic disorder affecting skeletal growth and development presenting anesthesiologists with many perioperative challenges. We present a case of a patient found to have multilevel tracheal stenosis due to twisting and folding of his trachea. ⋯ Structural and functional abnormalities of the trachea have not been reported in SMD. This is the first description of a patient with SMD with severe multilevel tracheal disease requiring tracheal reconstructive surgery.
