Updated threshold, renewed problems: should the diagnostic criteria of polycythemia vera be reconsidered? A retrospective cross-sectional cohort study.
This aim of this study was to evaluate hemoglobin and hematocrit values of polycythemia vera and secondary polycythemia patients with updated World Health Organization thresholds. In addition, by determining our own threshold values, we aimed to demonstrate the necessity of bone marrow biopsy and genetic analysis to be used for further diagnosis in patients with high-normal hematocrit and hemoglobin values. ⋯ Our study demonstrated that modified World Health Organization criteria might lead to unnecessary additional tests for polycythemia vera patients with high-normal hemoglobin and hematocrit values.

Predictors of recurrence in breast cancer patients with pathological partial response.
Patients with residual disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy have a relative risk of developing recurrence. This study investigates the risk factors for recurrence in locally advanced breast cancer patients with residual disease and evaluates survival analysis. ⋯ Factors affecting disease-specific survival and disease-free survival were cNII-III and the number of involved lymph nodes, respectively. Patients with non-luminal, large residual tumors with in situ carcinoma, lymphovascular invasion, clinically positive axilla, and residual nodal involvement have a high relative risk for recurrence and may benefit from additional treatments.

Males were more affected at younger ages than females. Furthermore, ascites was the most prevalent cause of complications in both periods analyzed.

Evaluation of maternal serum fibroblast growth factor-23 levels in fetal growth restriction and gestational hypertensive disease.
The objective of this study was to determine serum fibroblast growth factor-23 levels in preeclampsia, eclampsia, gestational hypertension, and the presence of fetal growth restriction subgroups. ⋯ Serum fibroblast growth factor-23 levels are similar between pregnancies complicated with gestational hypertensive disease and normotensive pregnancies. However, serum fibroblast growth factor-23 levels were found to be lower in pregnancies complicated with gestational hypertensive disease with the presence of fetal growth restriction.
