The aim of the study was to determine the respiratory muscle strength of stroke patients and compare them with healthy individuals. ⋯ This study highlights the significant respiratory muscle weakness experienced by stroke patients, with gender-specific differences. It highlights the importance of incorporating respiratory assessments and interventions into stroke rehabilitation protocols to improve the overall health and well-being of stroke patients.

Associations of the atherogenic index of plasma with insulin resistance and inflammation.
This study aimed to investigate the association between the atherogenic index of plasma and insulin resistance, while also evaluating atherogenic index of plasma's prognostic value in inflammation by examining its correlation with platelet/lymphocyte ratio and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio. ⋯ Atherogenic index of plasma presents as a promising predictor for insulin resistance, demonstrating robust associations with inflammation, thus offering valuable clinical insights and potential for early risk assessment and management strategies.

Epidemiological analysis of congenital syphilis in the State of Paraná, Brazil.
Congenital syphilis is a complex public health issue caused by the transmission of Treponema pallidum. Brazil has high incidence rates, with a distinct transmission pattern surpassing other notifiable diseases. ⋯ Paraná State serves as a representative sample of this epidemiological situation, providing significant insights into the intricacies of congenital syphilis incidence. Further comparative investigations including diverse regions within Brazil are necessary.

As healthy microbiota lays the foundation, it is crucial for midwives, who play an important role and responsibility in providing necessary recommendations for strengthening the connection between the mother and the child, to understand the basic structures and functions of various microbial communities and to be knowledgeable about microbiota and health. Therefore, this study aimed to provide microbiota education to midwifery students to explain the importance of microbiota for health, demonstrate its relationship with newborn health, women's health, and diseases, and evaluate the students' awareness of microbiota at the end of the education. ⋯ Through peer education, areas of confusion experienced by students regarding microbiota were gamified, resolved through mutual knowledge exchange, and awareness of microbiota was raised.

Mortality related to sickle cell disease and COVID-19 in Brazil, 2020.
The ability to cause death is the definitive measure of an infectious disease severity, particularly one caused by a novel pathogen like severe acute respiratory syndrome-CoV-2 (COVID-19). This study describes sickle cell disease-related mortality issues during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. ⋯ In Brazil, COVID-19 deaths produced trend changes in sickle cell disease-related causes of death, age at death, and regional distribution of deaths in 2020.
