Measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter on computed tomography for the differentiation of transient ischemic attacks.
The objective of this study was to investigate whether the measurement of mean optic nerve sheath diameter in patients with transient ischemic attack could be used to distinguish between control groups, the acute ischemic stroke group, and subgroups within the acute ischemic stroke category. ⋯ The mean optic nerve sheath diameter of patients in the transient ischemic attack group was lower compared with those in the stroke subgroups but higher compared with the control group.

Prevalence of positive tuberculin skin test in a Brazilian sample of rheumatoid arthritis and spondylarthritis patients.
Patients with rheumatic diseases have an increased risk of infections, especially tuberculosis. In this study, we aimed to recognize the positivity rate of tuberculosis skin test in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis and the characteristics of the patients with positive results. ⋯ The tuberculosis skin test-positive prevalence in rheumatoid arthritis was lower than in the spondyloarthritis sample. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis using a higher dosage of methotrexate or with spondyloarthritis using sulfasalazine had more frequency of tuberculosis skin test positivity and should be carefully followed by the attending physician in order to avoid the appearance of full-blown tuberculosis.

The aim of this study was to determine the state of aging anxiety in middle-aged women. ⋯ In addition to working outside the home, women are also burdened with duties inside the home. To improve their quality of life, women need to share many of the tasks imposed on them with other family members. To reduce the anxiety experienced by women during the climacteric period, it is recommended to provide psychosocial support to women and consider this issue in health policies. Healthcare professionals, especially nurses, have important duties to reduce anxiety and stress, which constitute the basis of many chronic diseases. It is recommended that nurses, who are health ambassadors, direct women with anxiety to psychological support services through screenings they will conduct for women during this period.

Updated threshold, renewed problems: should the diagnostic criteria of polycythemia vera be reconsidered? A retrospective cross-sectional cohort study.
This aim of this study was to evaluate hemoglobin and hematocrit values of polycythemia vera and secondary polycythemia patients with updated World Health Organization thresholds. In addition, by determining our own threshold values, we aimed to demonstrate the necessity of bone marrow biopsy and genetic analysis to be used for further diagnosis in patients with high-normal hematocrit and hemoglobin values. ⋯ Our study demonstrated that modified World Health Organization criteria might lead to unnecessary additional tests for polycythemia vera patients with high-normal hemoglobin and hematocrit values.
