Evaluation of cardiac contractility of fetuses from pregestational diabetes mellitus pregnancies by three-dimensional ultrasound.
This study aimed to evaluate cardiac contractility in fetuses from pregestational diabetes mellitus pregnancies by three-dimensional ultrasound using spatiotemporal image correlation in rendering mode. ⋯ Cardiac contractility as evaluated by three-dimensional ultrasound using spatiotemporal image correlation in rendering mode showed no significant differences across fetuses with and without pregestational diabetes.

Relationship between skeletal muscle mass loss and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease among Chinese patients with metabolic dysregulation.
The aim of this study was to explore the correlation between skeletal muscle content and the presence and severity of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease in patients with metabolic dysregulation in China. ⋯ Skeletal muscle mass loss among patients with metabolic dysregulation was positively associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease severity in both sexes. The skeletal muscle index cutoff value could be used to predict metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease.

Management of appendicitis in coronavirus disease 2019, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, pandemic era: decreasing incidence with increasing complicated cases?
This study aimed to examine the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on appendicitis and the relevant outcomes in a tertiary hospital, designated as a "pandemic institution" by the Ministry of Health, between pre-COVID-19 and post-COVID-19, i.e., between 2019 and 2020, of the identical period in terms of the annual schedule. ⋯ The number of appendectomy operations decreased in the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients operated during the pandemic period had wider appendix diameter and lower neutrophil levels. The pathological diagnosis was less frequent acute appendicitis, more frequent gangrenous appendicitis, and phlegmonous appendicitis in the pandemic period.

C-reactive protein to lymphocyte count ratio is a promising novel marker in hepatitis C infection: the clear hep-c study.
Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) is one of the most important health problems affecting the significant rate of world population and it may lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. C-reactive protein to lymphocyte count ratio (CLR) is used in estimating inflammatory burden. Therefore, this study aimed to compare CLR values between CHC patients and healthy controls and between CHC patients with and without fibrosis. ⋯ Increased CLR in patients with CHC may be an alarming finding of liver fibrosis, as CLR is associated with both CHC and hepatic fibrosis.

Observational StudyBacterial coinfections in COVID-19-hospitalized patients.
The aim of this study was to assess the rate of bacterial infections in COVID-19-hospitalized patients and to analyze the most prevalent germs, sources, risk factors, and its impact on in-hospital mortality. ⋯ We observed a high rate of bacterial infections in COVID-19-hospitalized patients, most commonly of respiratory source. Neurologic and oncologic morbidities and need for ventilation and renal replacement therapy was associated with risk factors for bacterial infections. Nevertheless, an association between bacterial infections and hospital mortality was not established.
