Tardive syndrome (TS) is a group of movement disorders caused by the long-term use of dopamine receptor blocking agents. The phenotypic presentation of TS is diverse, ranging from the most well-characterized symptom of tardive dyskinesia to other symptoms, including dystonia, akathisia, myoclonus, parkinsonism, tremor, and tics. These tardive symptoms are distinct not only in their phenomenology but also in their clinical outcomes. ⋯ However, patients with off-label use of second-generation antipsychotics are still at risk of developing TS. Thus, the management of TS remains a challenging and important issue for physicians. In this review, we update the information on the epidemiology, phenomenology, and treatment of TS from the perspective of the specific form of TS.

The demographic characteristics and transmission dynamics of the community-acquired coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Taiwan were analyzed for more effective control and prevention of the community transmission of this novel disease. ⋯ The high proportion of asymptomatic cases and the transmissibility in the presymptomatic and asymptomatic periods make control of COVID-19 challenging. Protective measures such as social distancing, wearing face masks, and hand washing are mandatory to prevent community transmission.

The clinical effect of atrial fibrillation (AF)-related ischemic cardiovascular events in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the risk of ischemic events in patients undergoing PD with new-onset AF compared with that in patients without AF and ascertain the association between the CHA2DS2-VASc score and risk of ischemic stroke. ⋯ The risks of ischemic stroke, all-cause death, and in-hospital cardiovascular death were significantly higher in patients undergoing PD with AF than those in patients without AF. The CHA2DS2-VASc score remained associated with the risk of ischemic stroke in patients undergoing PD with AF.

Diabetic macular edema (DME) is a sight-threatening condition that needs regular examinations and remedies. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is the most common used examination to evaluate the structure and thickness of the macula, but the software in the OCT machine does not tell the clinicians whether DME exists directly. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to aid in diagnosis generation and therapy selection. We thus develop a smartphone-based offline AI system that provides diagnostic suggestions and medical strategies through analyzing OCT images from diabetic patients at the risk of developing DME. ⋯ We successful integrated an AI model into the mobile device to provide an offline method to provide the diagnosis for quickly screening the risk of developing DME. With the offline property, our model could help those nonophthalmological healthcare providers in offshore islands or underdeveloped countries.

Sialic acids (SIAs), for example, α2,6-SIAs, can link to conserved N-glycans of immunoglobulin G (IgG). In this study, we investigated the correlation between α2,6-SIA on IgG and IgM and the disease activity of arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in mice. ⋯ Concurrent reverse expression of α2,6-SIA ratios on IgM and IgG correlated with the occurrence of CIA and RA disease activity. Thus, α2,6-SIA ratios on IgG-anti-CCP antibodies and IgMRF are potential markers for evaluating RA disease activities.
