ReviewNew Delhi Metallo-β-Lactamase-Mediated Carbapenem Resistance: Origin, Diagnosis, Treatment and Public Health Concern.
To review the origin, diagnosis, treatment and public health concern of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM)-producing bacteria. ⋯ In order to slow down the spread of these NDM-positive bacteria, a series of measures must be implemented. The creation and transmission of blaNDM are potentially global health issues, which are not issues for one country or one medical community, but for global priorities in general and for individual wound care practitioners specifically.

The objective was to review the major differences of Huntington disease (HD) in Asian population from those in the Caucasian population. ⋯ The lower epidemiology in Asians can be partly explained by the less cytosine-adenine-guanine repeats, different haplotypes, and CCG polymorphisms. For the physicians, atypical clinical profiles such as the initial symptom of ataxia, movement abnormalities of Parkinsonism, dystonia, or tics need to be paid more attention to and suggest gene testing if necessary. Moreover, some pathogenesis studies may help progress some new advanced treatments. The clinicians in Asian especially in China should promote the usage of genetic testing and put more effects in rehabilitation, palliative care, and offer comfort of patients and their families. The unified HD rating scale also needs to be popularized in Asia to assist in evaluating the progression of HD.

The Natural Progression of Parkinson's Disease in a Small Cohort with 15 Drug-naïve Patients.
The studies of the natural progression of Parkinson's disease (PD) in Chinese populations have been lacking. To address this issue and obtain a preliminary data, we conducted a PD progression assessment in 15 adults with de novo PD from a nutritional intervention trial (NIT) cohort in Lin County China. ⋯ Overall worsening of motor function in PD seems to be the rule in this untreated cohort, and their rate of progression seemed to be slower than those reported in the western populations.

Profile and Correlates of Health-related Quality of Life in Chinese Patients with Coronary Heart Disease.
Although coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the major cardiovascular diseases, risk factors associated with the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of CHD patients remain unclear. The present study was designed to determine the profile and significant factors of the HRQoL in CHD patients. ⋯ Findings of the study highlight certain socio-demographic, lifestyle factors, and comorbid stroke or diabetes mellitus as correlates of HRQoL in Chinese CHD patients. Large-scale cohort studies should be carried out to confirm our results in the future.

Immune Regulation of Interleukin-27 in Malignant Pleural Effusion.
Interleukin (IL)-27 has been reported to have anti-proliferate and anti-angiogenic activities on cancer cells. However, the involvement of IL-27 in malignant pleural effusion (MPE) remains unknown. Thus, in this research, we compared the immune functions of IL-27, interferon (IFN)-γ, and IL-17 on lung cancer cells and revealed the regulatory mechanism of IL-27 in MPE. ⋯ IL-27 might exert an important immune regulation on lung cancer cells in human pleural malignant environment.
