Multicenter Study
Implementation of the fifth link of the chain of survival concept for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
The American Heart Association 2010 resuscitation guidelines recommended adding a fifth link (multidisciplinary postresuscitation care in a regional center) to the previous 4 in the chain of survival concept for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Our study aimed to determine the effectiveness of this fifth link. ⋯ URL: http://www.apps.who.int/trialsearch. Unique identifier: UMIN000001607.

Despite several advances in postresuscitation care over the past decade, population-based mortality rates for patients hospitalized with cardiac arrest in the United States have not been studied over this time period. The aim of this study was to determine the annual in-hospital mortality rates of patients with cardiac arrest from 2001 to 2009. ⋯ The in-hospital mortality rate of patients hospitalized with cardiac arrest in the United States decreased by 11.8% from 2001 to 2009.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Ischemic preconditioning for prevention of contrast medium-induced nephropathy: randomized pilot RenPro Trial (Renal Protection Trial).
Contrast medium-induced acute kidney injury is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. The underlying mechanism has been attributed in part to ischemic kidney injury. The aim of this randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trial was to assess the impact of remote ischemic preconditioning on contrast medium-induced acute kidney injury. ⋯ URL: http://www.germanctr.de.
