KChIP2 (K+ channel interacting protein) is the auxiliary subunit of the fast transient outward K+ current ( Ito,f) in the heart, and insufficient KChIP2 expression induces Ito,f downregulation and arrhythmogenesis in cardiac hypertrophy. Studies have shown muscle-specific mitsugumin 53 (MG53) has promiscuity of function in the context of normal and diseased heart. This study investigates the possible roles of cardiac MG53 in regulation of KChIP2 expression and Ito,f, and the arrhythmogenic potential in hypertrophy. ⋯ These findings establish MG53 as a novel regulator of KChIP2 and Ito,f by modulating NF-κB activity and reveal its critical role in electrophysiological remodeling in cardiac hypertrophy.

Five-Year Outcome after Off-Pump or On-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in Elderly Patients.
The 30-day and 1-year follow-up analysis of the GOPCABE trial (German Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in Elderly Patients) revealed no significant difference in the composite end point consisting of death, stroke, myocardial infarction, new renal replacement therapy, or repeat revascularization. Findings among randomized controlled trials evaluating the effect of red meat on cardiovascular disease risk factors are inconsistent. We provide an updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials on red meat and cardiovascular risk factors and determine whether the relationship depends on the composition of the comparison diet, hypothesizing that plant sources would be relatively beneficial. ⋯ Inconsistencies regarding the effects of red meat on cardiovascular disease risk factors are attributable, in part, to the composition of the comparison diet. Substituting red meat with high-quality plant protein sources, but not with fish or low-quality carbohydrates, leads to more favorable changes in blood lipids and lipoproteins.

Platelet Inhibition With Cangrelor and Crushed Ticagrelor in Patients With ST-Segment-Elevation Myocardial Infarction Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.
The platelet inhibitory effects induced by oral P2Y12 receptor antagonists are delayed in patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (P-PCI). In turn, this leads to a gap in platelet inhibition, exposing patients to an increased risk of early thrombotic complications and underscoring the need to define strategies associated with more effective platelet inhibition in the peri-primary percutaneous coronary intervention period. Cangrelor is an intravenous P2Y12 inhibitor with prompt and potent antiplatelet effects. However, to date, there are limited data on the effects of cangrelor used in combination with ticagrelor in patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Moreover, questions have emerged on the potential for drug-drug interactions during the transition from cangrelor to oral P2Y12 inhibitors. ⋯ URL: https://www.clinicaltrials.gov .
