There is growing evidence that the subventricular zone (SVZ) may be involved in both the initiation and progression of glioblastoma (GB). We aimed to assess tumor proximity to the SVZ as a potential prognostic factor in GB. ⋯ Our results suggest that glioblastoma contact with the SVZ appears to be an independent prognostic factor for poor PFS. The presence of an SVZ-contacting tumor was associated with more aggressive recurrences and a higher rate of contralateral relapses. These findings suggest that this variable may be a new prognostic factor in glioblastoma.

Cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS-HIPEC) is an effective but complex treatment for peritoneal metastasis (PM). Our objective was to identify risk factors for postoperative morbidity and mortality following CRS-HIPEC. ⋯ CRS-HIPEC is a feasible treatment for colorectal PM with an acceptable morbi-mortality rate in experienced centers. In our study, digestive anastomosis, perioperative blood transfusion, hepatic resection, and lymph-node infiltration were associated with higher morbidity rates.

Whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WB-MRI) is a radiation-free alternative to the 99mTc-HDP bone scan (BS) for the detection of bone metastasis. The major drawback is the long examination time and application of gadolinium enhancer. The aim of this study is to analyze (i) the performance of WB-MRI versus the BS and (ii) the diagnostic benefit of gadolinium (WB-MRI + Gd) compared to a non-enhanced protocol (NE WB-MRI). ⋯ WB-MRI exceeds the sensitivity of BS without compromising the specificity, even after omitting the gadolinium enhancer.

Efficacy of osimertinib for the treatment of previously EGFR TKI treated NSCLC patients: a meta-analysis.
This study evaluates the efficacy of osimertinib for the treatment of previously epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EFGR-TKI) treated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. ⋯ Osimertinib treatment yields approximately 10 months PFS in prior EGFR-TKI-treated and 20 months in treatment-naïve NSCLC patients. Partial response rate is also higher in treatment-naïve patients. However, objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) did not differ between groups of patients.

In recent years, docetaxel, cisplatin and fluorouracil (TPF)-based induction chemotherapy (IC) has been widely applied in the treatment of locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC). However, it remains unclear whether TPF is the ideal IC regimen. Thus, we carried out a meta-analysis to compare the efficacy and safety of TPF-based IC plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) versus CCRT alone or double-drug-based IC plus CCRT for LA-NPC. ⋯ Compared to CCRT alone or double-drug-based IC plus CCRT, TPF-based IC plus CCRT results in better survival outcomes with manageable toxicities. Thus, it is reasonable to recommend the addition of TPF-based IC to CCRT as an excellent choice for patients with LA-NPC.
