Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors in heart failure patients across the range of body mass index: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors improve outcomes in patients with heart failure, with or without diabetes. We sought to assess whether there is an interaction of these effects with body mass index (BMI). A systematic review of the MEDLINE and Scopus databases (last search: November 15th, 2022) was performed according to the PRISMA statement. ⋯ There is no interaction between the efficacy of SGLT2 inhibitors and BMI in patients with HF with either preserved or reduced ejection fraction. SGLT2 inhibitors are associated with improved outcomes regardless of the BMI. Trial registration: PROSPERO ID: CRD42022383643.

Comparison of the efficacy of acupuncture with tuina with acupuncture-only in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis: a network meta-analysis.
At present, traditional Chinese medicine treatment is considered safe for treating peripheral facial paralysis (PFP). Acupuncture-only and acupuncture combined with tuina are widely used for this purpose. However, it is not clear whether acupuncture combined with tuina is better for treating PFP than acupuncture-only. ⋯ The results of this meta-analysis indicate that acupuncture combined with tuina can significantly improve MHBN and shorten the cure time, compared with acupuncture-only. However, the current evidence is insufficient, and more high-quality clinical studies are needed. Registration: This study had been registered with PROSPERO (CRD42022379395).

Frailty and its influence on mortality and morbidity in COPD: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Frailty increases vulnerability to adverse outcomes. Long-term conditions increase the risk of frailty. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, EMBASE from inception to March 2022. ⋯ The relationship between frailty and the risk of exacerbation showed a pooled OR, 1.45 (95% CI 0.37-5.70, I2 80%). Frailty is significantly associated with higher mortality risk in COPD. Frailty is common in patients with COPD and its measurement should be considered in clinical practice to better characterise COPD.

Systemic thrombolysis in patients with acute stroke and active cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Cancer patients frequently have concomitant cerebrovascular diseases, which significantly worsen their prognosis. Prospective studies validating intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) safety profile in patients with acute ischemic stroke and active cancer are still lacking. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate IVT's efficacy and safety profile in acute ischemic stroke patients with comorbid active cancer. ⋯ IVT was not associated with a significant increase in the incidence of intracerebral hemorrhage (OR 1.35; 95% CI 0.85-2.14; I2 76%), nor with a significant increase in death for any cause (OR 1.26; 95% CI 0.91-1.75; I2 71%); furthermore, IVT did not influence mRS between cancer and non-active cancer stroke patients (OR 0.72; 95% CI 0.35-1.49; I2 59%). IVT seems safe and effective in patients with ischemic stroke and concomitant cancer. Due to the low overall quality of the evidence, high-quality randomized controlled trials with adequate sample sizes are needed.

Endovascular therapy for posterior cerebral artery occlusion: systematic review with meta-analysis.
Endovascular therapy (EVT) is a highly effective stroke treatment, but trials validating this intervention did not include patients with posterior cerebral artery (PCA) occlusion. The aim of this systematic review with meta-analysis was to assess the efficacy and safety of EVT for acute PCA occlusion. PubMed, Scopus, ISI, and CENTRAL were searched for studies assessing EVT in adult patients with PCA occlusion. ⋯ EVT for acute PCA occlusion is technically feasible but associated with higher chance of sICH. There is no evidence to support this treatment to achieve higher rates of functional independence, but other gains that can impact patients' quality of life cannot be excluded. More studies are required with robust design, better patient selection, and comprehensive outcome evaluation.
