Comparative StudyNoninvasive estimation of PA pressure, flow, and resistance with CMR imaging: derivation and prospective validation study from the ASPIRE registry.
The aim of this study was to develop a composite numerical model based on parameters from cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging for noninvasive estimation of the key hemodynamic measurements made at right heart catheterization (RHC). ⋯ CMR imaging can accurately estimate mean pulmonary artery pressure in patients with suspected pulmonary hypertension and calculate PVR by estimating all major pulmonary hemodynamic metrics measured at RHC.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyRelationship of serum inflammatory biomarkers with plaque inflammation assessed by FDG PET/CT: the dal-PLAQUE study.
This study sought to longitudinally investigate the relationship between a broad spectrum of serum inflammatory biomarkers and plaque inflammation assessed by (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT). ⋯ Our data show that, in patients with coronary heart disease or at high risk of coronary heart disease on stable lipid-lowering therapy, circulating myeloperoxidase levels are associated with carotid plaque inflammation. (A Randomized, Placebo-controlled Study of the Effect of RO4607381 on Progression or Regression of Atherosclerotic Plaque in Patients With Coronary Heart Disease [CHD] Including Patients With Other CHD Risk Factors [dal-PLAQUE]; NCT00655473).

Comparative StudyPrognostic value of LA volumes assessed by transthoracic 3D echocardiography: comparison with 2D echocardiography.
The hypothesis of this study was that minimal left atrial volume index (LAVImin) by 3-dimensional echocardiography (3DE) is the best predictor of future cardiovascular events. ⋯ LAVIs by both 2DE and 3DE are powerful predictors of future cardiac events. 3D LAVImin tended to have a stronger and additive prognostic value than 3D LAVImax.

Radiolabeled WBC scintigraphy in the diagnostic workup of patients with suspected device-related infections.
The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic performance of (99m)Tc-hexamethypropylene amine oxime labeled autologous white blood cell ((99m)Tc-HMPAO-WBC) scintigraphy in patients with suspected infections associated with cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIEDs). ⋯ (99m)Tc-HMPAO-WBC scintigraphy enabled the confirmation of the presence of CIED-associated infection, definition of the extent of device involvement, and detection of associated complications. Moreover, (99m)Tc-HMPAO-WBC scintigraphy reliably excluded device-associated infection during a febrile episode and sepsis, with 95% negative predictive value.
