Multicenter StudyLV Mass as a Predictor of CVD Events in Older Adults With and Without Metabolic Syndrome and Diabetes.
The purpose of this study was to examine the prognostic significance of left ventricular (LV) mass for cardiovascular disease (CVD) events in older adults with and without metabolic syndrome (MetS) and diabetes mellitus (DM). ⋯ LV mass is associated with increased CVD risk and provides modest added prediction and clinical utility compared to standard risk factors in older persons with and without MetS but not with DM.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialInfluence of Coronary Calcification on the Diagnostic Performance of CT Angiography Derived FFR in Coronary Artery Disease: A Substudy of the NXT Trial.
The goal of this study was to examine the diagnostic performance of noninvasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) derived from coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) (FFRCT) in relation to coronary calcification severity. ⋯ FFRCT provided high and superior diagnostic performance compared with coronary CTA interpretation alone in patients and vessels with a high AS.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialEroded Versus Ruptured Plaques at the Culprit Site of STEMI: In Vivo Pathophysiological Features and Response to Primary PCI.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the pathophysiological features and response to primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of nonruptured/eroded plaque versus ruptured plaque as a cause of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). ⋯ In the present study, an IFC was observed at the culprit lesion site of one-third of STEMIs. IFC, compared with RFC, was associated with higher rates of patent IRA at first angiography, fewer lipid areas, and residual endoluminal thrombus. However, no difference in vascular response to everolimus-eluting stent was observed. (Optical Coherence Tomography Assessment of Gender Diversity in Primary Angioplasty [OCTAVIA]; NCT01377207).

Multicenter StudyPrognostic value of LV deformation parameters using 2D and 3D speckle-tracking echocardiography in asymptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis and preserved LV ejection fraction.
The objective of this study was to determine which strain component assessed by 2-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2DSTE) and 3-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (3DSTE) was the most powerful predictor for future major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in asymptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS). ⋯ 3DGLS is the most robust index for predicting future adverse cardiac events in asymptomatic severe AS patients with preserved LVEF.

Multicenter StudyCoronary artery calcium and incident cerebrovascular events in an asymptomatic cohort. The MESA Study.
This study assessed the predictive value of coronary artery calcium (CAC) score for cerebrovascular events (CVE) in an asymptomatic multiethnic cohort. ⋯ CAC is an independent predictor of CVE and improves the discrimination afforded by current stroke risk factors or the Framingham stroke risk score for incident CVE in an initially asymptomatic multiethnic adult cohort.
