Association Between Inflammatory Back Pain Characteristics and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings in the Spine and Sacroiliac Joints.
To investigate the association between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings at the sacroiliac (SI) joints and vertebral endplates and pain characteristics assumed to be indicative of axial inflammation. ⋯ The identified associations between inflammatory MRI findings and pain characteristics indicate that axial inflammation to some degree induces a specific pain pattern. Thus, the results add to knowledge of axial inflammatory processes. However, all identified associations were weak, which compromises the use of IBP as a marker of axial inflammation.

Septic Arthritis in Emergency Departments in the US: A National Study of Health Care Utilization and Time Trends.
To assess the health care utilization and emergency department (ED) charges for septic arthritis. ⋯ Comorbidities were associated with a higher risk of hospitalization after an ED visit for septic arthritis, but not higher ED charges. No time trends in ED visit incidence, ED charges, or hospitalization rate for septic arthritis from 2009-2012 were noted.

Randomized Controlled TrialSelf-Acupressure for Older Adults With Symptomatic Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
This double-blind randomized controlled trial aimed to test the efficacy of self-administered acupressure for pain and physical function improvement for older adults with knee osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ Self-administered acupressure is superior to usual care in pain and physical function improvement for older adults with knee OA. The reason for the benefits is unclear, and the placebo effect may play a role.

Impact of Osteoarthritis on Difficulty Walking: A Population-Based Study.
To assess the relationship of hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA) to walking difficulty. ⋯ In a population cohort, symptomatic hip/knee OA was the strongest contributor to walking difficulty. Given the importance of walking to engagement in physical activity for chronic disease management, greater attention to OA is warranted.

Perioperative Timing of Infliximab and the Risk of Serious Infection After Elective Hip and Knee Arthroplasty.
The optimal timing of tumor necrosis factor antagonists before elective surgery is unknown. This study evaluated the association between infliximab timing and serious infection after elective hip or knee arthroplasty. ⋯ Administering infliximab within 4 weeks of elective knee or hip arthroplasty was not associated with a higher risk of short- or long-term serious infection compared to withholding infliximab for longer time periods. Glucocorticoid use, especially >10 mg/day, was associated with an increased infection risk.
