Comparative Study
Comparison of a modified technique with conventional tension-band using Cable Grip System for comminuted patella fractures.
Treatment of comminuted patella fractures with tension band has resulted in impaired functional outcomes because the relationship between tension band and the tendons is always underestimated. We developed a modified enlacement (ME) technique to better place the tension-band under the quadriceps and patellar tendons and close to the patella. The study aimed to compare the ME with conventional enlacement (CE) technique regarding recovery of knee function. ⋯ The ME technique enables improved clinical outcomes and functional performance for the treatment of comminuted patella fractures.

Falls from height due to accident and suicide attempt in Greece. A comparison of the injury patterns.
Falls from height are a common cause of death and disability. Falls from height can be divided between accidental and suicide attempts. The aim of this study is to ascertain the demographic characteristics of these patients, and to identify the fracture patterns. ⋯ Patients following an accidental high fall mostly had upper limb fractures. Patients following a suicidal high fall mostly had lower limb fractures, pelvis, spinal fractures and head injuries. Spinal fractures are common either when the fall is accidental or following suicide attempt.

To compare quality of life in children and adolescents with tibial fracture during treatment with either a definitive long-leg cast or Ilizarov frame. ⋯ We found no difference in health-related quality of life during treatment between our patients treated for tibial fractures using a cast or an Ilizarov frame.

The purpose of this study was to examine risk factor and temporal associations between acute care hospitalization and post-discharge home injury falls in a population-based analysis sample of community dwelling older adults. ⋯ Older adults have an increased risk of falling at home after being discharged from an acute care hospitalization, with highest risk occurring during the 90-day post-discharge period. Special consideration should be given to assessing hospital-associated changes in fall risk among geriatric patients prior to discharge directly home. Discharge planning should include efforts to reduce home fall risk during the period of transition from hospital care.
