Pulmonary Vascular Disease CasesSESSION TYPE: Case ReportsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 04:15 PM - 05:15 PMINTRODUCTION: Percutaneous vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty are both techniques used to treat vertebral fractures and consist in the application of polimethilmethacrilate (PMMA) into the vertebral body, working as cement. One of the complications is pulmonary embolism (PE) of PMMA due to leakage of cement into the perivertebral veins. We report one case of a patient with cement PE seen in our practice. ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Aarón Córdova, Inma AlfagemeNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Bronchology Case Report PostersSESSION TYPE: Case Report PosterPRESENTED ON: Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMINTRODUCTION: Post-extubation stridor is a life-threatening condition. A variety of their causes has been established and includes obstructed secretion, vocal cord edema, vocal cord dysfunction, and tracheomalacia. In this report, we report herein a rare incidence of post-extubation stridor caused by obstructive fibrinous tracheal pseudomembrane (OFTP). ⋯ In conclusion, this report highlights the potential fatal complication of considering OFTP in patient presenting with dyspnea and inspiratory stridor after extubation, and the physician should alert and perform bronchoscopy for the precise diagnosis to allow early detection.Reference #1: Deslee G, Brichet A, Lebuffe G, Copin MC, Ramon P, Marquette CH (2000) Obstructive fibrinous tracheal pseudomembrane. Transplantation PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: Mild hypoxia has been seen in approximately one third of patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) is an important cause in a patient with hypoxemia and CLD. HPS in patients with CLD modifies the line of management and determines the prognosis of the disease. HPS is characterized by arterial de-oxygenation, intrapulmonary vascular dilatation (IPVD) in the setting of liver disease. This study was undertaken to assess the prevalence of HPS and to find predictive value of respiratory parameters in the diagnosis of HPS in patients admitted for liver transplant evaluation. ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Amrut Sindhu Sanikop, Raj SinghNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Transplantation Case Report PosterSESSION TYPE: Case Report PosterPRESENTED ON: Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMINTRODUCTION: Lung transplant patients face a scarcity of suitable organ donors, leading to prolonged waiting times and increased waiting list morbidity and mortality. Bilateral Cadaveric Lobar Lung Transplantation (BCLLT) can expand the donor pool in cases where donors may be unsuitable for whole lung donation due to viability of the lower lobes and yet have upper lobes suitable for transplantation in patients of small stature or reduced pleural space. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of BCCLT in the UK. ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Melissa McDonnell, Asif Hasan, Malcolm Brodlie, Christopher O'Brien, David Spencer, Dubhfeasa Slattery, Jim Egan, Richard Kirk, Jim LordanNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Infectious Disease Case Reports Posters IISESSION TYPE: Case Report PosterPRESENTED ON: Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMINTRODUCTION: Neutropenia complicates the management of critically ill patients. In the absence of malignancy or chemotherapy, its etiology and manifestations can be difficult to identify and portend a poor prognosis. Presented is a case of Neutropenic Enterocolitis (NEC). ⋯ Although a rare complication of medications, neutropenia resulting in NEC is unfortunate and potentially deadly. The case demonstrates the importance of follow up laboratory evaluation by primary care physicians after initiating new pharmacologic therapy.Reference #1: Irvin JD, Viau JM.
