Critical Care Posters IIISESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: It takes an experienced multi-professional team to handle emergent airway situations. Critical airway emergencies are increasing due to advances in medical treatments, obesity and sleep apnea. Difficult airway events are low volume and high risk, requiring expert skill and communication. In the United States, a leading adverse patient safety event is "death or serious disability associated with airway management." We created a Code Critical Airway Team to manage airway emergencies. ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Emily Rhoades, Pat McCabe, Kristen Nelson, Ziad Deeb, Jeffrey Dubin, George SampleNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Transplantation PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: Hypertension is frequent among lung transplant recipients (LTRs) and is generally considered the consequence of long-term calcineurin inhibitor use. Therefore LTRs frequently require antihypertensive medication. Blood pressure (BP) measurements guiding medication optimization in our setting are performed exclusively in a sitting position. In the past we have noted a number of falls (with hip fractures) and some LTRs reporting dizziness after standing up. Too strict blood pressure control may have contributed to this. A possible alternative explanation may be undiagnosed orthostatic hypotension (OH). The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of OH among a pilot sample of consecutive stable LTRs with and without antihypertensive medication. ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Macé Schuurmans, Johannes Wild, Aju Pazhenkottil, Ilhan Inci, Malcolm Kohler, Christian BendenNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Respiratory Infections PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: The aim of this study was to compare the ability of the relative change during the first 24h of the new biomarkers Pro adenomedullin (PADM), Procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP) and Lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP) to predict short term mortality (hospital mortality and mortality within 30 days). ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Ane Uranga, Pedro Pablo España, Alberto Capelastegui, Helena Azcuna, Sandra Dorado, Rosa Diez, Urko Aguirre, Maria del Carmen Mar, Edurne BereciartuaNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Thoracic Surgery PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: Advances in video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) techniques and associated technology have allowed the rapid development of uniportal VATS (UniVATS) lung resection in recent years. UniVATS may be associated with less access trauma and pain, quicker recovery and improved cosmesis. We review our experience and early outcomes for patients following UniVATS wedge resections (W), lobectomies (L) and pneumonectomy (P). ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Rainbow Lau, Calvin Ng, Micky Kwok, Randolph Wong, Eugene Yeung, Innes Wan, Song Wan, Malcolm UnderwoodNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Comorbidities of OSA PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: To investigate the prevalence and impact of undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and to compare 3 different clinical survey methods: Epworth, Berlin, and Sleep Apnea Clinical Score. Secondary objectives were to study post-operative clinical outcomes. ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Mark Fenton, Samuel Stewart, Robert Skomro, John Reid, John Gjevre, David Cotton, Ankona Banarjee, Taras Mycyk, Dorothy Thomson, Greg DalshaugNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.
