Emergency department visits for nontraumatic dental conditions: a systematic literature review.
To summarize the literature on factors associated with emergency department (ED) use for nontraumatic dental conditions (NTDCs). ⋯ Policy makers and health care providers should address modifiable factors such as accessible dental care for the uninsured, and comprehensive dental coverage for those with public dental benefits. Targeted interventions should focus on young adults, children with special needs, and subpopulations with low socioeconomic status and chronic health conditions.

Trends in non-traumatic dental emergency department use in New York and New Jersey: a look at Medicaid expansion from both sides of the Hudson River.
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of Medicaid expansion on non-traumatic dental condition (NTDC) emergency department visits in New York (NY) and New Jersey (NJ). ⋯ The experiences in NY and NJ suggest that the timing of expansion had significant effects on payer distribution for NTDCs. Racial disparities continue exist with black individuals disproportionately accessing EDs for NTDCs.

Determinants of emergency department utilization for non-traumatic dental conditions in Massachusetts.
To study the determinants of emergency department (ED) utilization for non-traumatic dental conditions (NTDCs) by adults in Massachusetts. ⋯ Increased access to preventive dental services may lower likelihood of ED use for NTDCs. Interventions that target younger adults, Medicaid enrollees, and the uninsured, may be the most efficient way to lower NTDC ED use.

Adolescents' smokeless tobacco susceptibility by perceived professional baseball players' use.
Measure associations between adolescent baseball players' perceptions of smokeless tobacco (ST) use by professional baseball players and those adolescents' actual ST use and susceptibility. ⋯ Adolescents' ST behaviors and intentions were correlated with their perceptions of professional baseball players' ST use.

The effect of health and dental insurance on US children's dental care utilization for urgent and non-urgent dental problems - 2008.
We examined the association between utilization of care for a dental problem (utilization-DP) and parent-reported dental problem (DP) urgency among children with DP by type of health care insurance coverage. ⋯ Expansion of Medicaid/SCHIP may permit children to receive care for urgent DPs who otherwise may not, due to lack of dental insurance.
