Meta AnalysisEfficacy and feasibility of amniotic membrane for the treatment of burn wounds: A meta-analysis.
Burns cause a huge economic burden to society, and the wounds can be very difficult to manage. Clinical experience suggests that amniotic membrane (AM) is an economical and effective biological dressing for burns. However, few systematic reviews or meta-analyses have been published on such use. We aimed to evaluate the role of AM dressings in burn wounds. ⋯ Systematic Review/Meta-analysis, level III.

Meta AnalysisPrognostic significance of preinjury anticoagulation in patients with traumatic brain injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of injury-related deaths and neurological disability globally. Considering the widespread anticoagulant use among the aging population, we aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic significance of preinjury anticoagulation in TBI patients. ⋯ Systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies, level III.

Meta AnalysisThromboelastography and Rotational Thromboelastometry in Bleeding Patients with Coagulopathy: Practice Management Guideline from the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma.
Assessment of the immediate need for specific blood product transfusions in acutely bleeding patients is challenging. Clinical assessment and commonly used coagulation tests are inaccurate and time-consuming. The goal of this practice management guideline was to evaluate the role of the viscoelasticity tests, which are thromboelastography (TEG) and rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM), in the management of acutely bleeding trauma, surgical, and critically ill patients. ⋯ Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis, level III.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudyLaparoscopic versus open approach for adhesive small bowel obstruction, a systematic review and meta-analysis of short term outcomes.
Adhesive small bowel obstruction (ASBO) is one of the most frequent causes of emergency hospital admissions and surgical treatment. Current surgical treatment of ASBO consists of open adhesiolysis. With laparoscopic procedures rising, the question arises if laparoscopy for ASBO is safe and results in better patient outcomes. Although adhesiolysis was among the first surgical procedures to be approached laparoscopically, uncertainty remains about its potential advantages over open surgery. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis on the benefits and harms of laparoscopic surgery for ASBO. ⋯ Systematic Review/Meta-analysis, Level III.

Meta AnalysisThe impact of frailty on posttraumatic outcomes in older trauma patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Frailty is a risk factor for mortality among the elderly. However, evidence from longitudinal studies linking trauma and frailty is fragmented, and a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between frailty and adverse outcomes is lacking. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine whether frailty is predictive of posttraumatic results including mortality, adverse discharge, complications, and readmission in trauma patients. ⋯ Systematic review and meta-analysis, level IV.
