[Pharmacovigilance and impact of intermittent preventive treatment with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine in pregnant women in Sélingué, Mali].
This study aimed to evaluate the impact of intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) and the associated adverse effects in pregnant women living in hyperendemic area of Sélingué in Mali on pregnancy outcome. Pharmacovigilance aims, monitoring the risk of adverse effects resulting from the use of drugs and products for human use licensees of marketing. IPT with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) is based on the administration of 2 doses of SP treatment in pregnant women at defined intervals after about 18-20 weeks of pregnancy. ⋯ No case of severe side effects or malformations was observed within new-born babies. In conclusion, IPT with S-P was well tolerated by pregnant women living in Sélingué and presents very few minor secondary reactions. The S-P is currently the only antimalarial drug with a single-dose which has a prolonged action and which also has ideal properties (low cost, several data on its tolerance and its facility of use) for a better use during the pregnancy in Africa.

The authors report the case of a 24-years old pregnant woman gravida 2 para 1 who sustained a gunshot injury at 23 weeks gestation. The bullet injured the rectosigmoid jonction, the jejunum and traversed the uterine cavity with resultant of fatal injury of the fetus. ⋯ Although a fetus demise was delivered by caesarian section a review of literature indicated that operative delivery should be avoided when the fetus has died already and the gravid uterus don't impaired the surgeon's ability to repair other visceral injuries. But the patient should be followed closely for signs of coagulopathy and intra uterine infection.

The occurrence of an event planned or unplanned during anesthesia is a concern for staff. This event may jeopardize the success of surgery gesture. Pediatric Surgery therefore has its own specific complications that it requires anesthesia. ⋯ This study estimates the incidence of adverse events in anesthesia during pediatric surgery. The overall rate of patients experiencing an adverse event is relatively high. Children age less than or equal to one year are most vulnerable.
