CircRNA circSLIT2 is a novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for gastric cancer.
Many diseases can mimic the symptoms of gastric cancer (GC). Therefore, misdiagnosis of GC is common. Our preliminary sequencing analysis revealed the altered expression of circSLIT2 in GC. In this study, we further explored the role of circSLIT2 in GC. ⋯ Increased circSLIT2 accumulation may serve as a novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for GC.

Axillary lymph node status and invasive lobular breast cancer : Analysis of the Clinical Tumor Register of the AGO Austria.
Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) represents the second most common type of invasive breast cancer (BC). Although ILC generally have good prognostic properties (positive estrogen receptor, ER, low tumor grade), they are generally diagnosed at a more advanced stage. The data on the axillary lymph node status in ILC compared to invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) are considered controversial. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the pathological node stage (pN) between ILC and IDC in an Austria-wide register. ⋯ The data show an increased risk of extensive axillary lymph node metastasis (pN2/3) in ILC.

Multicenter StudyStandardization of rectal cancer surgery and bowel preparation in Austria : A multicenter nationwide survey by the Austrian Society of Surgical Oncology.
Standardized management of colorectal cancer is crucial for achieving an optimal clinical and oncological outcome. The present nationwide survey was designed to provide data about the surgical management of rectal cancer patients. In addition, we evaluated the standard approach for bowel preparation in all centers in Austria performing elective colorectal surgery. ⋯ Considering the low number of low anterior resections performed in each hospital per year in Austria, defined centers for rectal cancer surgery are still scarce. Many hospitals did not transfer recommended bowel preparation guidelines into clinical practice.
