Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Rituximab as second-line treatment for adult immune thrombocytopenia (the RITP trial): a multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Immune thrombocytopenia is characterised by immune-mediated destruction and suboptimum production of platelets. Despite the absence of supporting evidence, rituximab is frequently used off-label in patients with immune thrombocytopenia. We aimed to assess the efficacy of rituximab as compared with placebo as a splenectomy-sparing treatment in patients who were previously treated with corticosteroids. ⋯ South-East Regional Health Authority and Østfold Hospital, Norway; Roche, France; and Roche, Norway.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Central arteriovenous anastomosis for the treatment of patients with uncontrolled hypertension (the ROX CONTROL HTN study): a randomised controlled trial.
Hypertension contributes to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. We assessed the safety and efficacy of a central iliac arteriovenous anastomosis to alter the mechanical arterial properties and reduce blood pressure in patients with uncontrolled hypertension. ⋯ ROX Medical.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Zotarolimus-eluting durable-polymer-coated stent versus a biolimus-eluting biodegradable-polymer-coated stent in unselected patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (SORT OUT VI): a randomised non-inferiority trial.
New-generation drug-eluting coronary stents have reduced the risk of coronary events, especially in patients with complex disease or lesions. To what extent different stent platforms, polymers, and antiproliferative drugs affect outcomes, however, is unclear. We investigated the safety and efficacy of a third-generation stent by comparing a highly biocompatible durable-polymer-coated zotarolimus-eluting stent with a biodegradable-polymer-coated biolimus-eluting stent. ⋯ Medtronic Cardiovascular and Biosensors Interventional Technologies.

School-based suicide prevention programmes: the SEYLE cluster-randomised, controlled trial.
Suicidal behaviours in adolescents are a major public health problem and evidence-based prevention programmes are greatly needed. We aimed to investigate the efficacy of school-based preventive interventions of suicidal behaviours. ⋯ Coordination Theme 1 (Health) of the European Union Seventh Framework Programme.

Multicenter Study Pragmatic Clinical Trial
The Preventive Antibiotics in Stroke Study (PASS): a pragmatic randomised open-label masked endpoint clinical trial.
In adults with acute stroke, infections occur commonly and are associated with an unfavourable functional outcome. In the Preventive Antibiotics in Stroke Study (PASS) we aimed to establish whether or not preventive antimicrobial therapy with a third-generation cephalosporin, ceftriaxone, improves functional outcome in patients with acute stroke. ⋯ Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development, Netherlands Heart Foundation, and the European Research Council.
