Numerous arthroplasty techniques had been reported for the treatment of thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) joint osteoarthritis. The purpose of our study is to evaluate long-term clinical and radiographic outcomes of patients who underwent modified trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction tendon interposition (LRTI). Our retrospective study included 20 consecutive patients with advanced thumb CMC arthritis receiving modified trapeziectomy with LRTI (20 thumbs). ⋯ NO case had a complication at final follow-up. Modified trapeziectomy with LRTI treating thumb CMC arthritis in Eaton stage III-IV had a satisfactory efficacy. This new procedure is able to provides enough support for thumb to prevents thumb sinking.

Review Practice Guideline Meta Analysis
Evidence-based practice guideline of Chinese herbal medicine for primary open-angle glaucoma (qingfeng -neizhang).
Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is a chronic, progressive optic neuropathy. The aim was to develop an evidence-based clinical practice guideline of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) for POAG with focus on Chinese medicine pattern differentiation and treatment as well as approved herbal proprietary medicine. ⋯ CHM therapy alone or combined with other conventional treatment reported in clinical studies together with Expert consensus were recommended for clinical practice.

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is one of the most common joint replacement surgeries in the United States. Postoperative pain is still a major complication after TKA. Electroacupuncture (EA) has been commonly used in clinical practice for pain after TKA, but its effects and safety remain uncertain. This protocol is described for a systematic review to investigate the beneficial effects and safety of EA for postoperative pain after TKA. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD 42018082407.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Effect of intravenous lidocaine infusion on long-term postoperative pain after spinal fusion surgery.
Intravenous lidocaine infusion is known to reduce postoperative pain for days or weeks beyond the infusion time, and plasma half-life in several types of surgical procedures. ⋯ Intra-operative lidocaine, when given intravenously as a bolus followed by an infusion, significantly decreased long term postoperative back pain intensity in patients undergoing spinal fusion surgery.

Comparative Study
Comparison of patients with avian influenza A (H7N9) and influenza A (H1N1) complicated by acute respiratory distress syndrome.
The aim of this study was to compare the clinical features of patients with avian influenza A (H7N9) and influenza A (H1N1) complicated by acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The clinical data of 18 cases of H7N9 and 26 cases of H1N1 with ARDS were collected and compared in the respiratory intensive care unit (RICU) of Fuzhou Pulmonary Hospital of Fujian from March 2014 to December 2016. Patients with H7N9 had a higher acute physiology and chronic health evaluation-II score (P < .05) and lung injury score (P < .05). ⋯ Based on multiple logistic regression analysis, H7N9 influenza viral infection was associated with a higher risk of the presence of severe ARDS than H1N1 influenza viral infection (odds ratio 8.29, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.53-44.94; P < .05). Compared to patients with H1N1, patients with H7N9 complicated by ARDS had much more severe disease. During long-term follow-up, more changes in pulmonary fibrosis were observed in patients with H7N9 than in patients with H1N1 during the convalescent stage.
