The Chinese government is attaching great importance to the development of ambulatory surgery in order to optimize the healthcare system in China. The study aims to examine the complications and quality indicators of patients who underwent gynecological ambulatory surgery at a tertiary hospital in China. This was a retrospective study of patients who underwent ambulatory surgery between July and September 2019 at the Department of Gynecology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University. ⋯ Compared with conventional hysteroscopic resection of uterine lesions, ambulatory hysteroscopic surgery had a shorter hospital stay and lower total costs (P < .05) but similar surgery-related costs. Ambulatory gynecological surgery is feasible in China, with an acceptable complication profile and obvious economic and social benefits. Nevertheless, hospital management shall be reinforced.

Pulmonary thromboembolism in coronavirus disease 2019 patients undergoing thromboprophylaxis.
We aimed to investigate the prevalence of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) and its association with clinical variables in a cohort of hospitalized coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients receiving low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) at prophylactic dosage. In this retrospective observational study we included COVID-19 patients receiving prophylactic LMWH from admission but still referred for lower-limbs venous Doppler ultrasound (LL-US) and computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) for clinical PTE suspicion. A dedicated radiologist reviewed CTPA images to assess PTE presence/extension. ⋯ In 33/45 patients (73%) patients LL-US was performed before CTPA, with 3 patients having superficial vein thrombosis (9%, none with CTPA-confirmed PTE) and 1 patient having deep vein thrombosis (3%, with CTPA-confirmed PTE). Thirty-three patients (73%) had at least one comorbidity, mainly hypertension (23/45, 51%) and cardiovascular disease (15/45, 33%). Before CTPA, 5 patients had high D-dimer (11.21 μg/mL, IQR 9.10-13.02), 19 high fibrinogen (550 mg/dL, IQR 476-590), 26 high interleukin-6 (79 pg/mL, IQR 31-282), and 11 high C-reactive protein (9.60 mg/dL, IQR 6.75-10.65), C-reactive protein being the only laboratory parameter significantly differing between patients with and without PTE (P = .002)High PTE incidence (60%) in COVID-19 hospitalized patients under prophylactic LMWH could substantiate further tailoring of anticoagulation therapy.

Natural changes of traumatic vertebral compression fractures during the first 6 months in patients visiting for disability certificates: A retrospective observational study.
To identify the natural changes of traumatic vertebral compression fractures during the first six months in patients visiting for disability certificates after conservative treatment. Data of patients who visited the rehabilitation medicine department of a university hospital for disability certificates concerning traumatic vertebral compression fractures from 2015 to 2018 were reviewed. Those who visited 180 to 210 days after injuries were included, and those who received invasive procedures for compression fractures were excluded. ⋯ Thoracic and lumbar compression fractures showed similar changes. Traumatic vertebral compression fractures change significantly during the first six months. This study could warrant 6 months of waiting for issuance of disability certificates for patients with traumatic vertebral compression fractures.

We investigated the association between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and rs2014355 variant in the gene, short-chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase (ACADS) based on exercise habits. Data collected between 2008 and 2015 for individuals aged 30 to 70 years were available in the Taiwan Biobank (TWB) database. Backward stepwise linear regression was used to evaluate the associations of rs2014355 and exercise with HDL-C levels. ⋯ Multivariate analyses showed significant association between TC+CC genotype and HDL-C in the exercise (β = 1.09785; P value = .0146) compared to the no-exercise group (β = -0.03754, P = .9154). In summary, the association between HDL-C and exercise differed significantly with respect to ACADS rs2014355 genotypes. Compared to the TT genotype, the TC+CC genotype together with exercise was associated with higher levels of HDL-C.
