There is still a lack of data on isolated calf deep vein thrombosis (ICDVT) following hip fractures surgery. The study aimed to determine the incidence of preoperative ICDVT and the associated risk factors in patients with hip fractures requiring surgery. The 289 patients who required hip surgery were included, duplex ultrasonography was routinely used to make a definite diagnosis of preoperative ICDVT located in unilateral or bilateral calf. ⋯ The univariate analyses showed significant differences regarding ICDVT were age, current smoking, alcohol consumption, time from injury to operation, albumin, white blood cells, lymphocyte, red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and activated partial thromboplastin time level among the 44 factors. The multivariable model confirmed 3 risk factors were significantly independent in association with preoperative ICDVTs, including current smoking, time delay from injury to operation and activated partial thromboplastin time ( < 28seconds). The incidence of preoperative ICDVT in hip fracture was 23.5%, and patients with associated risk factors are prone to form ICDVTs, identification of these factors may help to reduce the incidence of ICDVT with hip fractures by taking early prevention measures.

Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) is a critical complication of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). PTLD is classified into early and late-onset PTLDs. In post-HSCT patients, late-onset PTLD is rare, particularly PTLD after HSCT for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-related lymphoproliferative disease. Here, we report the case of a patient diagnosed with late-onset EBV-related hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), that of PTLD, after HSCT for chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV), that of EBV related lymphoproliferative disease, probably because of EBV reactivation. ⋯ PTLD, including HLH, is a life-threatening complication after transplantation, including HSCT. To our knowledge, this is the first case of late-onset EBV-related HLH after CBT for CAEBV. Late-onset PTLD has an indolent clinical course, but our patient's disease course was extremely aggressive. Therefore, late-onset EBV-related PTLD may be life-threatening.

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. Pain can be persistent in some patients and interrupt daily activities and sportive activities. There are a lot of treatment options available for plantar fasciitis. ⋯ There was a statistically significant difference between the pre-procedure and postprocedure AOFAS scores (P < .001), there was no statistically significant difference between the AOFAS scores in the first month postprocedure and during the final follow-up. RFNA can be used as an alternative method to surgical procedures for treating plantar fasciitis because it is safe and effective. The advantages of RFNA are that patients can quickly return to their work and resume weight-bearing activities.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is an acute diffuse inflammatory lung injury. Many causes of acute direct and indirect lung injury have been described as possible initiators of ARDS. According to the literature data, ARDS could be a rare complication associated with the acute onset of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Moreover, it has been suggested that cytokine release during DKA is involved in the above-mentioned acute clinical complications of DKA. ⋯ This case is very important because it shows that DKA can induce cytokine storm, which leads to the onset of ARDS. Therefore, monitoring various cytokines such as IL-6, which are associated with ARDS during the period of treatment of DKA is beneficial.
