This study aimed to explore the risk factors for infection and bleeding after lateral decubitus percutaneous nephrolithotomy procedures to prevent their occurrence and improve surgical outcomes. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 356 patients who underwent lateral decubitus percutaneous nephrolithotomy for the treatment of kidney stones and upper ureteral stones from January 2015 to August 2022. Among them, 290 patients had complete clinical data. ⋯ Independent risk factors for postoperative bleeding were multiple stones (P = .008) and stone size (P = .014). Multiple stones, stone size, and stone co-infection are independent risk factors for postoperative infection after lateral decubitus percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Multiple stones and stone size are independent risk factors for postoperative bleeding after lateral decubitus percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) have a high comorbid burden. Our objective was to assess the association between the age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index (Age-CCI) and mortality and readmission rates within 1-year post-TAVR. Data were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database (MIMIC-IV version 2.0). ⋯ The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that patients with Age-CCI ≥ 7 had a poorer prognosis than those with Age-CCI < 7 (log-rank P < .001). Subgroup analyses showed the results remained stable. Age-CCI is independently associated with all-cause mortality and readmission in patients treated with TAVR, which may help clinicians risk-stratify patients and offer an opportunity to improve patient outcomes.

The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients hospitalized with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and low N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels. Seven hundred ninety consecutive patients hospitalized with HFpEF from 2006 to 2017 were enrolled. Clinical characteristics and outcomes were compared between low NT-proBNP group (<300 ng/L) and elevated NT-proBNP group (≥300 ng/L). 108 HFpEF patients (13.7%) presented with low NT-proBNP levels. ⋯ However, both subgroups only reached borderline significant (P values for interaction = .062 and .084, respectively). Our findings suggest that low NT-proBNP levels were common in patients hospitalized with HFpEF. Patients with HFpEF and low NT-proBNP levels had a better prognosis than those with elevated NT-proBNP levels, particularly in younger, male, and non-atrial fibrillation patients.

Liver cancer has become an important public health problem. In this study, bibliometrics and visual analysis were performed on the literature related to the risk factors and prevention of liver cancer, in order to understand the latest research progress of the risk factors and prevention of liver cancer. The Web of Science database was used as a retrieval platform to retrieve the published research results from 2012 to 2023. ⋯ The United States and China are the countries with the most publications, while Harvard University, the National Institutes of Health and the University of Texas System are the 3 institutions with the most publications. Keywords such as hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, alcohol, obesity, recrudescence rate, global burden are hot words in the field of liver cancer risk factors and prevention. The current research mainly focuses on the influence of environmental factors, behavioral lifestyle and biological factors on liver cancer, as well as the primary and secondary prevention of liver cancer, but there are still many undetermined factors to be explored.

This study aimed to explore the mode of action of Yiqiyangyinquyu prescription (YP) against Sjögren's syndrome (SS) by combining network pharmacology with molecular docking techniques. YP's active components and target proteins were identified using the BATMAN-traditional Chinese medicine database. Concurrently, targets associated with SS were extracted from databases, including Genecards, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, and Therapeutic Target Database. ⋯ Noteworthy, TNF-α, considered the most important gene in YP against SS, binds to YP most stably, which was further validated by molecular dynamics simulation. In vitro experiments confirmed YP's capacity to reduce TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 expression, effectively alleviating SS-related inflammation. YP demonstrated a significant anti-inflammatory effect by suppressing inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β), providing experimental evidence for its clinical application in treating SS.
