Wumei pills (WMP), a classical Chinese herbal formula, have shown efficacy in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). However, the underlying mechanisms by which WMP simultaneously targets these distinct diseases remain unclear. In this study, a network pharmacology approach was employed to unravel the potential molecular mechanisms of WMP in UC and T2DM treatment. ⋯ WMP exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating signaling pathways, including the NF-κB pathway, PI3K-Akt pathway, and p53 pathway. Molecular docking results indicate a strong binding affinity between core compounds and core genes. This study bridges the understanding of 2 diseases using network pharmacology and provides insights into shared therapeutic mechanisms, opening doors for further research in modern Chinese herbal formulations.

Our objective was to assess the safety and efficacy of 3 tubes with or without covered esophageal stent placement for the management of gastro-mediastinal or gastro-pleural fistula. We retrospectively assessed the clinical data of 31 consecutive patients with gastro-mediastinal or gastro-pleural fistula treated by using a noninvasive treatment from February 2013 to July 2022. Patients received 3 tubes (jejunal feeding tube, gastrointestinal drainage tube and abscess drainage tube) with or without esophageal-covered stent placement. ⋯ The median survival was 30.8 months. The 1-, 3-, 5-year survival rates were 71.1%, 46.1% and 39.5%, respectively. A noninvasive treatment of 3 tubes with or without covered esophageal stent placement is safe and effective for gastro-mediastinal or gastro-pleural fistula after esophagogastrectomy.

One of the risk factors for esophageal adenocarcinoma is achalasia, an esophageal motility disorder that is typically treated surgically through laparotomy or laparoscopic surgery. The risk factors of gastric cardia cancer are also similar to esophageal adenocarcinoma due to the anatomical location of the gastric cardia close to the esophagus. There is currently no clinical evidence that achalching has a correlation with gastric cardia cancer. ⋯ Postoperative patients with achalasia often have symptoms of reflux, which may be one of the factors for the development of pancreatic cancer in this patient, thus requiring clinicians to pay more attention to the use of antireflux procedures in the surgical treatment of pancreatic achalasia. And the choice of which modality to perform surgery in patients with previous surgical history is also one of the points to be discussed.

The European League Against Rheumatism/American College of Rheumatology (EULAR/ACR) classification criteria for idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) have been widely used in recent times. However, no studies have focused on electromyography (EMG) findings of IIM, considering the criteria. This study aimed to elucidate the frequency of EMG abnormalities, particularly fibrillation potentials and positive sharp waves (Fib/PSW), the most objective EMG findings of IIM. ⋯ Furthermore, the remaining 4 patients with insufficient IIM probability also showed Fib/PSW. Fib/PSW may also be seen in cases with insufficient IIM probability not satisfying the criteria. EMG may help detect muscle involvement in these cases through Fib/PSW.

The aim of this study was to explore the impact of female body mass index (BMI) on cumulative live birth rates (CLBR) in patients treated with in vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo transfer. A total of 2377 patients who visited the Reproductive Medical Center, Luoyang Maternal and Child Health Hospital from January 2015 to December 2021. The patients underwent the first IVF cycles. ⋯ In logistic analysis, overweight/obesity was associated with CLBR in young patients (aOR = 0.822, 95% CI: 0.817-0.957, P = .000). However, in the cycles of older patients, the effect of overweight/obesity on the CLBR was not significant (aOR = 0.986, 95% CI: 0.903-1.027, P > .05). Overweight/obesity is a predictor for CLBR in younger patients (<35 years old), but not in advanced age patients undergoing their first IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection treatment cycles.
