The intricate interplay between the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the immune system has long been a focal point in understanding disease progression. Among the myriad of immune cells, basophils, often overshadowed, have recently emerged as pivotal contributors to the complex immunological landscape of HIV infection. This paper aims to provide a succinct overview of the enigmatic roles of basophils in HIV pathogenesis, elucidating their multifaceted functions and implications. ⋯ Moreover, harnessing basophils as potential vaccine targets or immune modulators represents a compelling avenue for future research. In conclusion, the emerging understanding of basophils' multifaceted involvement in HIV infection challenges prior perceptions and underscores their significance in shaping immune responses and disease outcomes. This abstraction highlights the need for continued research to unlock the full potential of basophils, paving the way for novel strategies in combatting HIV/AIDS.

Children with congenital heart disease (CHD) are receiving widespread attention for their neuropsychological developmental issues, which include cognitive, adaptive, motor, speech, behavioral, and executive functioning deficits as well as autism spectrum disorders. Timely identification of risk factors influencing neuropsychological development and implementation of appropriate interventions are crucial for enhancing the neuropsychological outcomes of children with CHD, ultimately benefiting the children, their families, and society as a whole. This comprehensive review article aimed to explore the epidemiology, risk factors, assessment methods, and monitoring strategies of neuropsychological development in children with CHD. By providing a detailed examination of these factors, this review serves as a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners in the field, facilitating deeper understanding and more effective management of neuropsychological issues in this vulnerable population.

Comparison of the effects of video conference and video-based home exercise on physical performance and body composition in older adult individuals.
With the development of technology, remote access exercise interventions are frequently used in older adults. Although different technology methods are used in exercise, studies comparing these methods are limited. Based on this, the aim of the study is to compare the effect of exercise applied with video conference (VC) and video-based home exercise (VBHE) methods on physical performance, skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, and body mass index (BMI) in older adults. ⋯ It has been observed that a 6-week calisthenic exercise intervention implemented through technology methods such as VC and VBHE is a useful method for the improvement of the physical performance of older adults. However, it was concluded that the VC method is a more effective method than the VBHE method. It is predicted that the lack of improvement in body composition is due to the intensity and duration of exercise.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a hematological malignancy characterized by the accumulation of immature myeloid precursor cells. Over half of AML patients fail to achieve long-term disease-free survival under existing therapy, and the overall prognosis is poor, necessitating the urgent development of novel therapeutic approaches. The plant alkaloid homoharringtonine (HHT), which has anticancer properties, was first identified more than 40 years ago. ⋯ In AML, HHT can induce cell apoptosis through multiple pathways, exerting synergistic antitumor effects, according to clinical and pharmacological research. About its modes of action, some findings have been made recently. This paper reviews the development of research on the mechanisms of HHT in treating AML to offer insights for further research and clinical therapy.

The application effect of autologous platelet-rich plasma combined with negative pressure sealing drainage technology in pressure ulcer wound repair.
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combining autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) for the repair of pressure ulcers. We included 90 patients with pressure ulcers from General Technology Gemstone Flower Healthcare Jilin City Hospital of Chemical Industry between January 2021 and December 2023. Patients were randomly assigned to either a control group or an observation group, with 45 patients in each. ⋯ Two weeks post-surgery, the observation group had significantly lower levels of C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and white blood cell count, as well as reduced numerical rating scale and Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing scores (P < .05). The incidence of complications was 6.67% (3/45) in the observation group compared to 33.33% (15/45) in the control group, with a significant difference (P < .05). Combining autologous PRP with NPWT significantly improves clinical outcomes, reduces inflammatory responses, decreases pain, accelerates wound healing, and lowers complication rates in patients with pressure ulcers.
