Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used in China for a long time and is gradually gaining more and more recognition worldwide. Gualou Guizhi Decoction (GGD) has long been used as a folk medicine for the treatment of rheumatic diseases, but its bioactive components and therapeutic mechanisms are still unclear. ⋯ The therapeutic effect of GGD for RA is achieved by affecting the core targets such as VEGFA, IL-1β, IL6, CXCL8, CCL2, and JUN, which together interfere with the tumor necrosis factor signaling pathway and RA pathway to treat RA. The above study provides new ideas for further exploration of this classic formula in the future.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is closely related to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which promotes and exacerbates the development of AS. However, it is uncertain how the precise underlying mechanism occurs. Here, we attempted to further explore the association underlying atherosclerosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease through integrated bioinformatics analysis. ⋯ Consequently, MMP9 may work together through immunity and inflammation to treat AS and NAFLD and may be a potential therapeutic target in the future. The findings of this study provide new insights into the shared association between AS and NAFLD. MMP9 is co-expressed up-regulated in AS and NAFLD, which be able to reveal the presence of co-expressed genes in atherosclerosis and NAFLD.

Clinicians may become parents during their clinical training and may be exposed to several challenges in career development, burnout and work-life balance. Previous research findings have reported that stressors facing trainees with children warrant greater attention from graduate medical institutions. Additionally, parenting-related information and considerations about the needs of trainees with children across clinical specialties are needed to inform institutional and national policies. ⋯ The results show the importance of creating a positive learning experience for trainees juggling parenting and training needs, especially those starting their training both as residents and as fellows and those with younger children. Interventions can be categorized into those targeted at the individual and family levels, and institutional levels, with the overarching goal of balancing training and parenting. This can be achieved by fostering learning environments that prevent and decrease burnout and enhance the well-being of trainees and their families, which can start with ensuring trainees are aware of available resources and possible accommodations.

There have been conflicting mechanisms that proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) may promote or prevent asthma development. However, the evidence on the association of PPI use with the risk of asthma and its exposure-response relationship has been limited. We aim to identify the association between the use of PPIs and the incidence of asthma, compared with use of histamine 2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs). ⋯ Among the 250,041 pairs, PPI users (51.3% male; mean [SD] age, 42.6 [16.5]; mean follow-up, 6.7 years) showed a higher incidence rate of asthma (7.94 events per 1000 person-year) compared to H2RA users (3.70 events per 1000 person-year) with adjusted hazard ratio of 2.15 (95% confidence interval = 2.08-2.21). The risk of asthma was significantly increased across all observed groups of duration of use, cumulative dose, and average dose per duration. This study suggested that PPI use is associated with an increased risk of developing asthma compared to H2RA use.
