Adult-onset congenital intestinal malrotation: A case report and literature review.
Intestinal malrotation is an infrequent congenital anomaly primarily observed in neonates, and adult-onset cases are exceedingly rare. Studies on adult congenital intestinal malrotation are limited. ⋯ Adult congenital intestinal malrotation is a rare disease that is often misdiagnosed owing to nonspecific clinical manifestations. Therefore, awareness about this condition should be enhanced. Surgery remains the cornerstone of treatment for this disease. Combining gastrojejunostomy and Braun anastomosis with the traditional Ladd procedure can optimize surgical outcomes.

Red blood cells (RBCs), traditionally recognized for their oxygen transport role, have garnered increasing attention for their significance as crucial contributors to the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus. In this comprehensive review, we elucidate the multifaceted roles of RBCs as both biomarkers and mediators in diabetes mellitus. Amidst the intricate interplay of altered metabolic pathways and the diabetic milieu, RBCs manifest distinct alterations in their structure, function, and lifespan. ⋯ Exploring the therapeutic implications, this review addresses potential interventions targeting RBC abnormalities to ameliorate diabetic complications. In conclusion, comprehending the nuanced roles of RBCs as biomarkers and mediators in diabetes mellitus offers promising avenues for enhanced diagnostic precision, therapeutic interventions, and improved patient outcomes. This review consolidates the current understanding and emphasizes the imperative need for further research to harness the full potential of RBC-related insights in the realm of diabetes mellitus.

Intercostal hemangiomas coexisting with multiple hepatic hemangiomas: Clinical and imaging findings in a single case report with a review of the literature.
Intercostal hemangioma (IH) is an extremely rare disease, with only 18 cases reported in the past 30 years. Herein, we report the first case of IH coexisting with multiple hepatic hemangiomas, which recurred 32 months after surgery with rib erosion. IHs are invasive and difficult to distinguish from other intercostal tumors on imaging. To date, there have been no review articles on the imaging findings of IHs. We hope that this article will help clinicians improve their ability to diagnose and treat IH. ⋯ It is necessary to include IHs as a potential differential diagnosis for chest wall tumors because early clinical intervention can prevent tumor growth and damage to adjacent structures. The imaging findings of IH show special characteristics. Preoperative imaging evaluation and diagnosis of IH are helpful for safe and effective surgery. Because of the high recurrence rate, complete surgical resection of IH with a sufficient tumor-free margin is recommended. It should be noted that the ribs should also be removed when the surrounding ribs are suspected to have been violated.

Timely transfusion of blood products is crucial, particularly in critical medical situations. Inadequate blood donation rates pose a significant threat to public health, potentially compromising patient care. This study aims to investigate the attitudes and willingness of Syrian college students to engage in blood donation, assess the prevalence of voluntary blood donation, evaluate their understanding of the determinants and procedures involved in the donation process, and identify the key factors influencing their behavior. ⋯ Our study demonstrates a positive attitude among college students towards voluntary blood product donation. However, the majority have not engaged in voluntary activities unless mandated for specific certification purposes. Donation rates were relatively higher than the reported rates in other similar studies conducted in Middle Eastern countries.

Gallstone disease (GD) is a common gastrointestinal disease. Although traditional diagnostic techniques, such as ultrasonography, CT, and MRI, detect gallstones, they have some limitations, including high cost and potential inaccuracies in certain populations. This study proposes a machine learning-based prediction model for gallstone disease using bioimpedance and laboratory data. ⋯ State-of-the-art machine learning techniques were performed on the dataset to detect gallstones. The experimental results showed that vitamin D, C-reactive protein (CRP) level, total body water, and lean mass are crucial features, and the gradient boosting technique achieved the highest accuracy (85.42%) in predicting gallstones. The proposed technique offers a viable alternative to conventional imaging techniques for early prediction of gallstone disease.
