It aims to study the diagnostic effect of procalcitonin (PCT) and red blood cell distribution width (RDW) in premature septicemia (PS), and to analyze the prognostic evaluation value of PCT and RDW in PS. Ninety eight septicemia premature infants (SPI) who visited the neonatal intensive care unit of our hospital from June 2019 to July 2021 were selected and met the criteria. Based on the patient's condition and the neonatal shock score, they were separated into a severe group (SG) and a mild group (MG). ⋯ The optimal cutoff values for PCT on the 1st and 3rd day AT were 40.594ng/ml and 64.854ng/ml, respectively, with sensitivity of 100.0% and 100.0%, and specificity of 73.2% and 87.1% (P < .05). The optimal cutoff values for RDW on the 1st and 3rd day AT were 16.649% and 18.449%, respectively, with sensitivity of 100.0% and 100.0%, and specificity of 68.5% and 91.8% (P < .05). Monitoring the changes in PCT and RDW can promote the early diagnosis of PS and their prognosis evaluation.

Traditional observational and in vivo studies have suggested an etiological link between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and the development of extraesophageal diseases (EEDs), such as noncardiac chest pain. However, evidence demonstrating potential causal relationships is lacking. This study evaluated the potential causal relationship between GERD and EEDs, including throat and chest pain, asthma, bronchitis, chronic rhinitis, nasopharyngitis and pharyngitis, gingivitis and periodontal disease, cough, using multiple Mendelian randomization (MR) methods, and sensitivity analysis was performed. ⋯ The funnel plot considers the genetic instrumental variables to be almost symmetrically distributed. This MR supports a causal relationship among GERD and EEDs. Precise moderation based on causality and active promotion of collaboration among multidisciplinary physicians ensure high-quality diagnostic and treatment recommendations and maximize patient benefit.

As a novel form of cell death, oxeiptosis is mainly caused by oxidative stress and has been defined to contribute to the cellular death program in cancer. However, the precise involvement of oxeiptosis-related long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) within gastric cancer (GC) remains elusive. Thus, our study was aimed to elucidate the pivotal effect of hub oxeiptosis-related lncRNAs on GC by comprehensively analyzing lncRNA and gene expression data obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. ⋯ These findings provide valuable insights into the complex interplay between oxeiptosis-related lncRNAs and the intricate molecular landscape of GC. Ultimately, leveraging the risk scores derived from our comprehensive analysis, we successfully developed a nomogram that enables accurate prediction of GC prognosis. Collectively, our study established a solid foundation for the integration of thirteen hub oxeiptosis-related lncRNAs into a clinically applicable risk-sig, potentially revolutionizing prognostic assessment in GC and facilitating the development of innovative therapeutic strategies.

Asymptomatic uterine perforation and IUD migration to the broad ligament: A case report.
Uterine perforation is a serious complication of intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) placement. However, as complete uterine perforation and extrauterine migration may remain asymptomatic, thorough localization of the IUD is important prior to reinsertion. ⋯ Both IUDs were successfully removed without any complications.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health concern. But there are limited machine learning studies on non-cancer patients with advanced CKD, and the results of machine learning studies on cancer patients with CKD may not apply directly on non-cancer patients. We aimed to conduct a comprehensive investigation of risk factors for a 3-year risk of death among non-cancer advanced CKD patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60.0 mL/min/1.73m2 by several machine learning algorithms. ⋯ Additionally, SVM with linear kernel function had the highest specificity of 0.9983, while its sensitivity and F1-score were poor. Logistic regression had the best performance, with an area under the curve of 0.8527. Evaluating Taiwanese advanced CKD patients' EMRs could provide physicians with a good approximation of the patients' 3-year risk of death by machine learning algorithms.
