Gestational choriocarcinoma occurs very rare in conjunction with pregnancy and it is camouflage for diagnosis. ⋯ Choriocarcinoma in pregnancy is camouflaged, and its clinical presentation varies widely. Despite an asymptomatic status, metastasis can occur, and ultrasonography is important for early diagnosis and treatment monitoring.

There is increasing evidence that alterations in gut microbiota (GM) composition are associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but no reliable causal relationship has been established. Therefore, a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study was conducted to reveal a potential causal relationship between GM and ASD. Instrumental variables for 211 GM taxa were obtained from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and Mendelian randomization studies to estimate their impact on ASD risk in the iPSYCH-PGC GWAS dataset (18,382 ASD cases and 27,969 controls). ⋯ Additionally, further sensitivity analysis verified the robustness of the above results. We confirm a potential causal relationship between certain gut microbes and ASD, providing new insights into how gut microbes mediate ASD. The association between them needs to be further explored and will provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of ASD.

There is no consensus on the physiologic decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) due to geriatric conditions related with the aging or chronic kidney disease (CKD) itself. In this study, we aimed to compare the CKD progression and associated complications in a large sample of geriatric and non-geriatric patients. The data of in 506 patients at age between 30 to 90 years and diagnosed with CKD at stage 2 and above (15 mL/min/1.73 m2 ≤ eGFR < 90 mL/min/1.73 m2) were collected retrospectively and compared among geriatric (>65 years old) and non-geriatric individuals. ⋯ The eGFR change was significantly smaller in geriatrics at stage 3b and 4 (P < .001 and P = .04, respectively) while the rate of progressed renal disease was lower in geriatrics at stage 3a and 3b (21.1% vs 9.9%, P = .03 and 41.2% vs 11.1%, P < .001, respectively). eGFR change in 4-year period and the rates of progressive renal disease are higher in the non-geriatrics and also the prevalence of secondary complications of CKD, such as hyperparathyroidism, acidosis, and hyperkalemia, are higher in non-geriatrics. This may reflect that decline of GFR in geriatric individuals is at least partially related to physiological aging rather than kidney disease. Therefore, devising age related CKD definitions might be appropriate.

Identifying the most highly cited papers in a given field can help researchers and professionals understand the milestones and research areas that are generating the most impact. This study aimed to identify and describe the 50 most frequently cited manuscripts on cysticercosis and neurocysticercosis. ⋯ Our findings shed light on the dissemination of knowledge about cysticercosis and neurocysticercosis in recent decades, identifying the most highly cited contributions that have driven research in the field.

The ABC classification, which categorizes gastric cancer risk based on serum Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) antibody and pepsinogen levels, has a limitation of potentially misclassifying high-risk individuals as low risk. To overcome the problem, we previously developed a 4-parameter predictive formula (age, serum H pylori antibody, PGI, and PGII) using logistic regression analysis to accurately identify low-risk truly H pylori-uninfected status. Our predictive formula demonstrated superior sensitivity and specificity in distinguishing between low-risk truly uninfected individuals and high-risk currently/spontaneously eradicated status individuals, compared to the modified ABC classification based on latex immunoassay kits (traditional 3-parameter model). ⋯ The specificity of the predictive formula was superior in the 70 to 89 age range and H pylori antibody < 3 U/mL groups. The predictive formula had higher specificity than the traditional 3-parameter model. The results should contribute to efficient gastric cancer screening by predicting H pylori infection status.
