Randomized Controlled Trial Retracted Publication
A randomized controlled trial of botulinum toxin A for treating neuropathic pain in patients with spinal cord injury.
To assess the effect of botulinum toxin A (BTA) for treating neuropathic pain in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). ⋯ The results of this study demonstrated that BTA might decrease intractable neuropathic pain for patients with SCI.

Subclinical hypothyroidism and the risk of chronic kidney disease in T2D subjects: A case-control and dose-response analysis.
Evidence indicated a positive association between subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) and cardiovascular diseases. But the relationship between SCH and chronic kidney diseases (CKD) remains unclear. A case-control study was performed to ascertain this relationship followed by a meta-analysis. ⋯ The present evidence suggests that SCH is probably a significant risk factor of CKD in T2D. Linear trend is shown between TSH elevation and CKD in T2D. This relationship between serum TSH and renal impairment in type 2 diabetic patients needs further studies to investigate.

Efficacy, safety, and cost of surgical versus nonsurgical treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common peripheral nerve entrapment disease. Either surgical or conservative intervention for CTS patients is needed to choose. We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the clinical efficacy, safety, and cost of surgical versus nonsurgical intervention. ⋯ Both surgical and conservative interventions had benefits in CTS. Nonsurgical treatment was more effective and safety than surgical treatment, but there were no significant differences in function improvement, symptom improvement, neurophysiological parameters improvement, and cost of care. Nonsurgical treatment is recommended as the optical choice for CTS. If conservative treatment fails, surgical release can be taken.

Tibial nerve stimulation to inhibit the micturition reflex by an implantable wireless driver microstimulator in cats.
Traditional tibial nerve stimulation (TNS) has been used to treat overactive bladder syndrome (OAB), but there are some shortcomings. Thus, a novel alternative is needed for the treatment of OAB. The study investigated the effects of a new type of tibial nerve microstimulator on the micturition reflex in cats. ⋯ The implantable wireless driver tibial nerve microstimulator appears to be effective in inhibiting the micturition reflex during physiologic and pathologic conditions. The implantable wireless driver tibial nerve microstimulator could be used to treat OAB.

Transformation of a Nonfunctional Paraganglioma With I-123 MIBG Scintigraphy Correlation: A Case Report.
A 35-year-old woman presenting with abdominal pain was found to have mildly elevated catecholamine levels and a retroperitoneal mass. The patient underwent a negative I-123 MIBG scintigraphy scan and a nondiagnostic fine needle aspiration. Eleven years later the patient presented with a hypertensive emergency and markedly elevated catecholamine levels. ⋯ I-123 metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) scintigraphy has become the imaging study of choice for paragangliomas and has a sensitivity of ∼77% to 100% in detecting functional paragangliomas. This case demonstrates scintigraphic correlation of the functional transformation of a nonfunctional paraganglioma in a time span of ∼10 years. Although there are previously published case reports of scintigraphic positive, nonfunctional paragangliomas and scintigraphic negative chromaffin cell tumors, there has been no prior documented case of scintigraphic transformation on MIBG.
