Intracerebral hematoma (ICH) as a result of ruptured of intracranial aneurysms often arises in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Few studies focused on risk factors for ICH and not the impact of residual hematoma after evacuation on the outcomes of the patients. Therefore, 2 questions need to be answered: does residual hematoma after evacuation have impact on the outcome of patients who present with ICH as a result of ruptured intracranial aneurysms? Is radical pursuit of the hematoma necessary? The study was a single-center longitudinal observational type. ⋯ Furthermore, our logistic regression model showed that advance age, poor Hunt-Hess grade, and vascular injury due to surgery were contributing factors for poor outcome of patients with ICH. Our data suggested that aggressive hematoma evacuation may not benefit the poor-grade patients. Majority of poor outcomes were due to surgical complications which were vascular related as a result of excessive pursuit of ICH.

In this study, we aimed to investigate whether fibrinogen degradation products(FDP)and D-dimer could be used as serological indicators of rheumatoid arthritis(RA) activity, such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), and platelets (PLT). A total of 112 consecutive patients with RA between July 2018 and July 2020 were divided into moderate and high disease activity groups (disease activity score 28(DAS28) > 3.2, n = 60) and low disease activity and remission groups (DAS28≤3.2, n = 52). A total of 50 healthy volunteers were included in the control group, and FDP and D-dimer levels were compared across the three groups. ⋯ The ROC curves showed that the FDP and D-dimer levels could be used to evaluate the RA activity (all P < .001). The AUC of FDP was significantly larger than that of PLT (P = .047). FDP and D-dimer can be used as supplementary serological indicators to assess RA activity, in addition to ESR, CRP, and PLT.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a condition that is very common during pregnancy and has negative consequences for both mother and fetus. Insulin resistance has been shown as an important cause in the pathogenesis of GDM and low-level inflammation is suggested to be one of the underlying causes of insulin resistance. We aimed to investigate whether the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), which is an indicator of systemic inflammation, is a predictor for GDM. ⋯ We found a significant increase in NLR in the 1st and 3rd trimesters in the GDM group compared to healthy pregnant women, which supports that systemic inflammation starts in the early stages of pregnancy and continues throughout pregnancy. We also reported a positive correlation between NLR and fasting plasma glucose and body mass index in both trimesters. We showed that first trimester NLR independently predicted the development of GDM.

To investigate the current status of uterine adhesions in patients with residual fetus and analyze the preventive effect of estrogen and progesterone sequential therapy combined with Foley balloon. Eighty-six patients with residual fetus were divided into control group and observation group. On the basis of the treatment plan of the control group, the observation group received estrogen and progesterone sequential therapy combined with Floey balloon treatment. ⋯ After treatment, compared with the control group, the observation group Vmax, Vmin, and other indicators, the level was significantly lower, and the RI level was significantly higher (P < .05); the observation group had a lower probability of complications (P < .05). The likelihood of uterine adhesions after fetal remains is increased. The use of estrogen and progesterone sequential therapy in conjunction with Foley balloon therapy can improve treatment efficacy, improve uterine adhesion prevention, and promote patient recovery after surgery.

Uganda enforced several stringent restrictions such as night-time curfews, travel bans, school closure, and physical and social distancing among others that constituted a national lockdown to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). These restrictions disrupted the delivery of health services but the impact on outcomes of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care has not been rigorously studied. We evaluated the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on outcomes of HIV care among people living with HIV (PLHIV) aged ≥15 years in Kampala, Uganda. ⋯ The overall mean age was 32.7 ± 8.8 years. In the exposed group relative to the comparison group, viral load testing (OR, 1.68; 95% CI, 1.59-1.78) and viral load suppression (OR, 1.34; 95% CI, 1.110-1.63) increased while retention (OR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.70-0.81) and mortality (OR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.64-0.88) reduced. Among PLHIV in Kampala, Uganda, viral load testing and suppression improved while retention and mortality reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions due to new approaches to ART delivery and the scale-up of existing ART delivery models.
