The co-incidence of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and tuberous sclerosis with pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and renal angiomyolipoma (AML) is rare. In such patients, the rupture of renal AML may result in fatal circumstances, but this may be preventable. ⋯ Although rare, SLE may coexist with TSC, along with LAM and AML, with a risk of AML rupture. The activation of the mTOR signaling pathway is shared between SLE and TSC. Thus, in patients with SLE, clinicians should consider imaging studies, such as kidney sonography and chest CT, to screen for possible manifestation of AML and LAM.

An increasing number of patients are receiving rehabilitation after stroke. But the impact of intensive rehabilitation on the long-term prognosis of patients with stroke remains to be elucidated. The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of intensive rehabilitation on the long-term prognosis of patients with stroke using data from the National Health Insurance Service database. ⋯ Therapy performed by a physical therapist with more than 120 hours of training effectively improved the patients' long-term prognosis. Intensive PT and OT will help improve the long-term prognosis of patients with stroke. This study emphasizes the importance of intensive rehabilitation in these patients.

This study aimed to examine the range of beige colored mucosa (BCM) in patients with esophageal eosinophilic infiltration (EEI) using narrow-band imaging (NBI). In this retrospective study, EEI was confirmed histologically in 12 consecutive patients from January 2014 to December 2017. The BCM tone on NBI without magnifying endoscopy was evaluated, and red, green, and blue (RGB) values of BCM and normal mucosa were measured. ⋯ BCM was observed in all cases of EEI. RGB values differed between bright and dark BCM. Assessing BCM tone using NBI is a potentially novel diagnostic method for EEI.

Anxiety level in severe asthmatics undergoing bronchial thermoplasty procedure: An observational study.
Bronchial thermoplasty (BT) is one of the novel approved modalities in treating severe asthmatics to overcome their exacerbating symptoms such as increased anxiety. The purpose of this study was to evaluate anxiety level among severe asthmatics while undergoing BT procedure. This was an observational study where subjects self-evaluated their overall anxiety level using the burns anxiety inventory (BAI) questionnaire at baseline and prior to each of three BT treatments (broncho thermoplasty procedure 1, broncho thermoplasty procedure 2, and broncho thermoplasty procedure 3). ⋯ This study shows the effectiveness of BT in decreasing severe asthmatic anxiety levels from baseline to last BT treatment and this benefit was mostly noted in those who were not on any anxiety medications. A limitation of this study is that all subjects were recruited from a single center. Therefore, to further validate the study findings, a multi-center study needs to be conducted with a larger sample size.

Explore the feasibility and effectiveness of accepting mind mapping combined with problem-based learning (PBL) teaching method in the standardized training of emergency surgery residents in the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) model of emergency trauma. Eighty-nine doctors under training who rotated in the Department of Emergency Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from January 2021 to January 2022 were selected as the study subjects, and randomly divided into a group receiving mind mapping combined with PBL teaching and a group receiving traditional lecture-based learning teaching. Mini-clinical evaluation exercise (Mini-CEX), direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS), teaching adherence, and satisfaction assessments were completed at the time of discharge from the department. ⋯ Both groups of doctors were better able to participate in their respective teaching modes and made significant progress. The participants in the observation group had significantly higher Mini-CEX, DOPS, and teaching satisfaction scores than the control group (P < .05). Under the MDT model of emergency trauma, the combination of mind mapping and PBL teaching can improve the comprehensive clinical ability of the trainees more than participating in the traditional lecture-based learning teaching, which is worth promoting and implementing in the clinical standardized training.
