Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Effects of hip brace on coxa valga in nonambulatory children with cerebral palsy: A randomized controlled trial.
Coxa valga, measured as the neck-shaft angle (NSA) or head-shaft angle (HSA), is regarded as a potential risk factor for hip dislocation in patients with cerebral palsy. We investigated the effects of a novel hip brace on coxa valga. ⋯ The hip brace was effective in preventing the progression of coxa valga and hip displacement, suggesting that the prevention of coxa valga using hip brace is a contributing factor in prevention of hip displacement.

Studies have shown routine ultrasound surveillance (RUSS) will facilitate deep vein thrombosis (DVT) detection in patients with trauma and reduce the subsequent incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE); however, the findings were inconsistent. In adults with trauma at a high risk of venous thromboembolism, this systematic review and meta-analysis compared RUSS outcomes with those of "no RUSS." ⋯ The RUSS efficacy in adults with trauma at high risk for venous thromboembolism showed that it increases DVT detection, decreases PE incidence, and shortens the time to DVT diagnosis, with an uncertain impact on mortality. The evidence is low or very low in certainty because of bias, inconsistency, imprecision, and indirectness.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a malignant plasma cell disease. In recent years, several systematic reviews, and meta-analyses have been published on treatment protocols, including autologous stem cell transplantation for MM. ⋯ This overview suggested that the combination of drugs has improved patient survival rates, efficacy and safety compared with the standard regimen. However, the strength of the evidence is uneven and due to methodological errors, the results should be interpreted with caution in order to provide a reference for further improvement of the study design. The methodological quality of the relevant meta-analysis needs to be further improved.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the prevailing form of autoimmune thyroiditis and the leading cause of hypothyroidism in iodine-sufficient regions worldwide. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation on HT through a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). ⋯ Vitamin D supplementation may have beneficial effects on HT patients by modulating immune responses and improving thyroid function.

The use of tirofiban as an adjunct to endovascular therapy (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke has been controversial. We aimed to assess the differences in safety and efficacy of EVT adjuvant to tirofiban in patients with anterior circulation stroke (ACS) and posterior circulation stroke (PCS). ⋯ In acute ischemic stroke patients undergoing EVT, tirofiban improves good functional outcomes in ACS patients and increases recanalization rates in PCS patients on the 1 hand, reduces mortality, and does not increase the risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage on the other. Tirofiban is safe and effective in both anterior circulation stroke and posterior circulation stroke patients undergoing EVT. More large multicentre randomized controlled studies are needed in the future.
