Randomized Controlled TrialManagement of postoperative pain after Lumbar surgery-pregabalin for one day and 14 days-a randomized, triple-blinded, placebo-controlled study.
Despite the progress in understanding acute pain physiology during recent decade, eighty percent of patients still suffer from post-operative discomfort. Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant agent that is approved for painful neuropathies in diabetic patients and post herpetic neuralgia. The main objective of the present study was to compare the improvement in post-operative pain management and patient lifestyle in 3 groups, as first group received placebo, second who received Pregabalin for one day and the last group those who received it for 14 days. ⋯ The results of this study indicate that 1day and 2 weeks post-operative 300mg pregabalin administration may not improve acute pain, morphine consumption and quality of life of patients after surgery. It seems that the diseases cause chronic pain that requires long-term treatment with higher doses.

The incidence of and risk factors for ischemic complications after microsurgical clipping of unruptured middle cerebral artery aneurysms and the efficacy of intraoperative monitoring of somatosensory evoked potentials: A retrospective study.
Ischemic complications (ICs) account for 6.7% after microsurgical clipping of unruptured intracranial aneurysms. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) monitoring during microsurgical clipping of unruptured middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysms and evaluate the incidence of and risk factors for ischemic complications after clipping of unruptured MCA aneurysms. ⋯ Clinicians should consider the possibility of IC during microsurgical clipping of unruptured MCA aneurysms in patient≥62.5years and/or a history of stroke. Intraoperative SSEP monitoring is an effective and feasible tool for preventing IC.

Evaluation of histopathological changes in the microstructure at the center and periphery of glioma tumors using diffusional kurtosis imaging.
To explore the relationship between alterations in gliomas revealed by diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI) and the histopathological microstructural changes. ⋯ DKI, especially concerning the MK parameter, demonstrated high sensitivity in the detection of microstructural changes in patients with brain gliomas.
