Meta AnalysisCommon and distinct patterns of gray matter alterations in borderline personality disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder: A dual meta-analysis.
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are severe psychiatric disorders and often co-occur, either of the two will seriously threaten to public health. However, we lack ample evidences to understand the potential pathophysiologic mechanisms of gray matter (GM) alterations in the two disorders. ⋯ Group comparisons and conjunction analyses in BPD and PTSD identified same regions of GM volume reductions in the orbitofrontal gyrus and anterior cingulate cortex, which may provide clues for the neurobiological mechanisms and clinical diagnosis underpinning two disorders.

Meta AnalysisCerebrospinal fluid NFL in the differential diagnosis of parkinsonian disorders: A meta-analysis.
Neurofilament light chain (NFL) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a promising biomarker candidate which may discriminate atypical parkinsonian disorders (APD), mainly including multiple system atrophy (MSA), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and corticobasal degeneration (CBD), from Parkinson's disease (PD). We aim to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of CSF NFL level as a differentiating biomarker between APD and PD. Databases of PubMed, OVID and Web of Science were searched for studies (published until May 31, 2017) that reported on CSF NFL as a diagnostic biomarker between APD and PD. ⋯ The results of Deeks' test revealed a low risk of publication bias. The CSF NFL level may be used as a biomarker in discriminating APD from PD with high diagnostic accuracy at an early stage of disease. Large and longitudinal studies are still needed on individuals who are suspected to have APD.

Meta AnalysisAssociation between ANKK1 (rs1800497) polymorphism of DRD2 gene and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: a meta-analysis.
The role of dopamine neurotransmitter in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) remains controversial. Many molecular studies focusing on dopamine receptors have attempted to analyze the gene polymorphisms involved in dopaminergic transmission. Of these, rs1800497 (TaqIA) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of the dopamine D2 receptor (DRD2) gene has been focused on by the most attention. ⋯ However, the results of meta-regression indicated that publication date (p=0.601), source of controls (p=0.685), ethnicity (p=0.755) and diagnostic criteria (p=0.104) could not explain the potential sources of heterogeneity. This meta-analysis indicates that the rs1800497 locus may be associated with ADHD. These data provide possible references for future case-control studies in childhood disorders.

Meta AnalysisVoxelwise meta-analysis of gray matter anomalies in Parkinson variant of multiple system atrophy and Parkinson's disease using anatomic likelihood estimation.
Numerous voxel-based morphometry (VBM) studies on gray matter (GM) in patients with the Parkinson variant of multiple system atrophy (MSA-P) and Parkinson's disease (PD) have been separately conducted. Identifying the different neuroanatomical changes in GM between MSA-P and PD through meta-analysis may aid the differential diagnosis of MSA-P and PD. A systematic review of VBM studies on patients with MSA-P and PD compared to healthy controls (HC) from the PubMed and Embase databases between January 1995 and June 2014 was conducted. ⋯ For patients with disease duration within 5 years, compared with PD, the decrease in GMV focused on the bilateral putamen and claustrum in MSA-P. In contrast, for patients with disease duration within 3 years, no significant GMV difference was found between MSA-P and PD. Our meta-analysis indicated that the atrophy of bilateral putamen or claustrum is not a neuroanatomical marker for distinguishing MSA-P from PD during the early stage by using the VBM method.

Review Meta AnalysisVitamin D status and the risk of multiple sclerosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To estimate the associations between vitamin D status and multiple sclerosis (MS). We searched electronic databases of the human literature in PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library up to February, 2014 using the following keywords: 'vitamin D' or '25(OH)D' and 'status' or 'deficiency' or 'insufficiency' and 'multiple sclerosis'. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted on observational studies that reported the association between blood vitamin D levels and MS. ⋯ There were statistically significant heterogeneity (P<0.00001; I(2)=92%). The significant heterogeneity may be due to the differences in ethnicity, country, season of blood sampling and age of the participants studied. To sum up, low vitamin D levels are associated with an increased risk of MS.
