Multicenter StudyAttitude of Brazilian dentists and dental students regarding the future role of artificial intelligence in oral radiology: a multicenter survey.
The aim of this study was to assess the attitude of dentists and dental students in Brazil regarding the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in oral radiology, and to evaluate the effect of an introductory AI lecture on their attitude. ⋯ A generally positive attitude towards AI was found; an introductory lecture was beneficial towards this attitude and alleviated concerns regarding the effect of AI on the oral radiology profession. Given the unprecedented, ongoing revolution of AI-augmented radiology, it is pivotal to incorporate AI topics in dental training curricula.

Performance of deep learning object detection technology in the detection and diagnosis of maxillary sinus lesions on panoramic radiographs.
The first aim of this study was to determine the performance of a deep learning object detection technique in the detection of maxillary sinuses on panoramic radiographs. The second aim was to clarify the performance in the classification of maxillary sinus lesions compared with healthy maxillary sinuses. ⋯ This study using a deep leaning object detection technique indicated that the detection sensitivities of maxillary sinuses were high and the performance of maxillary sinus lesion identification was ≧80%. In particular, performance of sinusitis identification was ≧90%.

Micro-CT and nano-CT analysis of filling quality of three different endodontic sealers.
To investigate voids in different root canal sealers using micro-CT and nano-CT, and to explore the feasibility of using nano-CT for quantitative analysis of sealer filling quality. ⋯ Bioactive sealers showed higher root filling rate, lower incidence rate of voids, void fraction and void volume than AH Plus under nano-CT analysis, when round root canals were treated by the single cone technique. The disparate results suggest that the higher resolution of nano-CT have a greater ability of distinguishing internal porosity, and therefore suggesting the potential use of nano-CT in quantitative analysis of filling quality of sealers.

Comparative StudyVisibility of different foreign bodies in the maxillofacial region using plain radiography, CT, MRI and ultrasonography: an in vitro study.
To compare the usefulness of four imaging modalities in visualizing various foreign bodies of different sizes. ⋯ In cases with suspected foreign bodies in the maxillofacial region, CT seems to be the optimal initial imaging study. Wood, however, could only be detected using ultrasonography.

Comparative StudyAssessment of cross-sectional thickness and activity of masseter, anterior temporalis and orbicularis oris muscles in oral submucous fibrosis patients and healthy controls: an ultrasonography and electromyography study.
Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is an insidious chronic disease that is associated with significant functional morbidity and an increased risk for malignancy. It initially affects the lamina propria of the oral mucosa, and, as the disease progresses, it involves the submucosa and deeper tissue, including muscles of the oral cavity, resulting in loss of fibroelasticity. OSMF is a pre-malignant condition mainly caused by areca nut chewing. The aim of this study was to find out the involvement of muscles of mastication and facial expression in patients with OSMF by assessing the cross-sectional thickness and activity of the masseter, anterior temporalis and orbicularis oris muscles by ultrasonography and electromyography and comparing with healthy controls and also to find out any correlation between the ultrasonographic cross-sectional thicknesses of the masseter, anterior temporalis and orbicularis oris muscles with electromyographic activity. ⋯ It was concluded that, among the muscles studied, there was an early involvement of the masseter muscle in patients with OSMF compared with that of other muscles.
