Retrospective study. ⋯ The combined scoring method based on 18F-FDG PET/CT provided excellent overall accuracy in distinguishing spinal infections from malignancies. This approach may prove useful for patients with MRI contraindications or with equivocal results following laboratory tests or traditional imaging when there is high suspicion for spinal infections or malignancy.

A retrospective analysis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ⋯ We differentiated between Modic changes and pyogenic spondylitis using a CNN that interprets MRI. The performance of the CNN was comparable to, or better than, that of the four clinicians.

Preclinical biomechanical study of topology optimization versus standard ring design for bioresorbable poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) cervical spine fusion cages delivering bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) using a porcine model. ⋯ A topology-optimized PCL cage with BMP-2 is capable of resulting in an intervertebral fusion, similar to a conventional ring-based design of the same bioresorbable material.
