Retrospective analysis of the incidence and prevalence of dysphagia after anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF). ⋯ Duration of preexisting pain and the number of vertebral levels involved in the surgical procedure appear to influence the likelihood of dysphagia after ACDF.

A prospective, controlled, open, randomized multicenter study. ⋯ Bone Seal is an effective and safe hemostatic material for sealing bleeding bone surfaces after iliac crest bone graft harvesting. By virtue of its hemostatic efficacy, Bone Seal is preventive for wound healing disorders.

Dual growing rod technique for the treatment of progressive early-onset scoliosis: a multicenter study.
A retrospective case review of children treated with dual growing rod technique at our institutions. Patients included had no previous surgery and a minimum of 2 years follow-up from initial surgery. ⋯ The dual growing rod technique is safe and effective. It maintains correction obtained at initial surgery while allowing spinal growth to continue. It provides adequate stability, increases the duration of treatment period, and has an acceptable rate of complication compared with previous reports using the single rod technique.

A randomized controlled trial of an educational intervention to prevent the chronic pain of whiplash associated disorders following rear-end motor vehicle collisions.
Concealed allocation, multicenter, single-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial. ⋯ The presence of persistent WAD symptoms following simple rear-end MVCs was high in this sample. The video group demonstrated a trend toward less severe WAD symptoms. We recommend evaluating other educational interventions that could reduce WAD symptoms.

The transition from acute to subacute and chronic low back pain: a study based on determinants of quality of life and prediction of chronic disability.
Follow-up study. ⋯ LBP influences disability and quality of life more than RP. Disability is predicted by pain duration and quality of life is predicted by disability, but pain severity predicts neither one of them. Changes related to determinants of disability and quality of life, and to the prediction of chronic disability, appear 14 days after the onset of pain, supporting that cutoff point for considering a patient as being subacute.
