This is a case report. ⋯ These observations suggest a wider indication for computed tomography scans of the thorax in blunt chest trauma. Also, whenever intraspinal air is found in the diagnostic course of a traumatized patient, a hidden pneumothorax should be suspected and ruled out.

Bony and vascular anatomy of the normal cervical spine in the sheep.
This study analyzed the vascular and skeletal anatomy of the sheep cervical spine. It discusses the comparative anatomy of the cervical spine of sheep and humans. ⋯ To properly assess the effect of various pathological processes on the spinal cord, an anatomically valid model is required. This study established that the sheep is a suitable animal model for studies of this type.

Resolving disputes under the Americans with Disabilities Act. A case example of an employee with a back impairment.
To illustrate the importance of proactive medical professional participation in Americans with Disabilities Act reasonable accommodation cases, this article describes the use of alternative dispute resolution techniques to resolve a case involving a blue collar employee with a work-related lower back injury. The problems in accommodating employees with back and spine injuries are being experienced by many employers. To date, the largest number of discrimination claims filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under the Americans with Disabilities Act involve individuals with back and spine impairments. This article identifies eight decision-points in the Americans with Disabilities Act accommodation process that are relevant to employers, persons with disabilities, medical professionals, union representatives, and legal counsel.

One-hundred-eight patients from a consecutive series of 125 anterior lumbar interbody fusions were invited to participate in a radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging assessment more than 10 years after the original surgery. ⋯ The findings of this study suggest that degeneration after an anterior lumbar interbody fusion is determined more by individual characteristics than by the fusion itself.
