Mid- to long-term outcomes in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis after instrumented posterior spinal fusion: a meta-analysis.
Meta-analysis on mid- to long-term outcomes in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis after instrumented posterior spinal fusion. ⋯ This study confirms the negative effect of Harrington rods on sagittal alignment. We further found that the degree of correction in the coronal and sagittal planes was higher after Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation than all-pedicle screw fixation. All-pedicle screw constructs offered the lower risk of mid- to long-term complications and revision surgery.

This study is a research synthesis of the published literature evaluating the performance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for differentiation of malignant from benign vertebral compression fractures (VCFs). ⋯ Several specific MRI features using signal intensity characteristics, morphological characteristics, quantitative techniques, and findings at other levels can be useful for distinguishing benign from malignant VCFs and can serve as inputs for a prediction model. Observer performance reliability has not been adequately assessed.

A meta-analysis of comparative outcomes following cervical arthroplasty or anterior cervical fusion: results from 4 prospective multicenter randomized clinical trials and up to 1226 patients.
Meta-analysis of 4 prospective randomized controlled Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) clinical trials. ⋯ These findings suggest that cervical arthroplasty is superior to ACDF in overall success, neurological success, and survivorship outcomes at 24 months postoperatively.

Evaluation of treatment effectiveness for the herniated cervical disc: a systematic review.
Systematic review. ⋯ No evidence for effectiveness of conservative treatment compared with surgery was found. Although there is moderate evidence for the effectiveness of some surgical interventions, no unequivocal evidence for the superiority of 1 particular surgical treatment was found. Worldwide, most patients receive supplementary implants; however, cervical discectomy without graft may be preferred because of similar outcomes, lower costs, and possibly a lower risk of adjacent-level disease. More high-quality RCTs using validated outcome measures (including adjacent level disease) are needed.
