Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Balloon kyphoplasty versus KIVA vertebral augmentation--comparison of 2 techniques for osteoporotic vertebral body fractures: a prospective randomized study.
Prospective, parallel-group, controlled comparative randomized study. ⋯ Both KIVA and BK restored in short-term similarly vertebral body height, but only KIVA restored vertebral body wedge deformity. KIVA was followed by significantly lower and harmless always extracanal leakage rate than BK. Longer observation is needed to show whether these radiological changes have any functional impact.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
ProDisc-C and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion as surgical treatment for single-level cervical symptomatic degenerative disc disease: five-year results of a Food and Drug Administration study.
Randomized controlled trial. ⋯ Five-year results show that TDR with ProDisc-C is a safe and effective treatment of single-level symptomatic cervical disc disease. Clinical outcomes were comparable with ACDF. ProDisc-C patients maintained motion at the index level and had significantly less neck pain intensity and frequency as well as a lower probability of secondary surgery.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Patterns of care after magnetic resonance imaging of the spine in primary care.
Retrospective cohort study. ⋯ Patients receiving MRI scans of the spine in the primary care setting are frequently referred for surgical assessment and most do not receive subsequent surgery. MRI scan results do not discriminate very well between those who will and will not undergo surgery, suggesting that alternative models for the assessment of patients with spinal complaints in primary care should be explored, particularly in jurisdictions with long wait times for elective spinal surgery consultation.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Prognostic factors of prolonged disability in patients with chronic low back pain and lumbar degeneration in primary care: a cohort study.
A cohort study with 1-year follow-up. ⋯ Increased pain-related disability at 1 year was seen in patients with impaired fasting glucose tolerance, greater pain-related disability, higher BMI, and lower quality of life at baseline.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Adjacent level degeneration and facet arthropathy after disc prosthesis surgery or rehabilitation in patients with chronic low back pain and degenerative disc: second report of a randomized study.
Randomized clinical trial with 2-year follow-up. ⋯ In this first study that compared the courses of degeneration after treatment with disc prosthesis surgery or rehabilitation, ALD was observed at similar frequencies at the 2-year follow-up. However, the surgery group had increased FA at the implant level.
