Effect of a collar on subsidence and local micromotion of cementless femoral stems: in vitro comparative study based on micro-computerised tomography.
The aim of this study is to quantitatively compare the difference in primary stability between collarless and collared versions of the same femoral stem. Specifically, we tested differences in subsidence and micromotion. ⋯ Primary stability was achieved for both stem designs, with a mean micromotion below the osseointegration threshold. Under loading conditions similar to those observed in normal daily activity and with good press-fit, the collar had no influence on subsidence or micromotion. Further studies are required to test the potential advantage of collar with higher loads, undersized stems, or osteoporotic femurs.

This study aimed to provide preliminary evidence regarding effectiveness of grafting beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) combined with a cancellous autograft for treating nonunion of long bones in the lower extremity due to infection by evaluating clinical and radiological outcomes. ⋯ Our findings suggest that β-TCP may be an effective extender when using the induced membrane technique.

Comparison of dry needling and steroid injection in the treatment of plantar fasciitis: a single-blind randomized clinical trial.
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain. Considering different interventions which are applied for patients with plantar fasciitis, dry needling is proposed as a new modality of treatment recently. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of dry needling versus steroid injection for plantar fasciitis. ⋯ Steroid injection can palliate plantar heel pain rapidly but dry needling can provide more satisfactory results for patients with plantar fasciitis in the long term.
