A randomized controlled trial: comparing extracorporeal shock wave therapy versus local corticosteroid injection for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) has been reported as a new therapy for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). However, few studies have compared ESWT with the local corticosteroid injection (LCI). ⋯ ESWT is a useful noninvasive short-term treatment for mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome and elicits a better recovery than LCI does, but more research is needed to test the clinical outcomes of ESWT.

Clinical and radiologic outcomes of two patellar resection techniques during total knee arthroplasty: a prospective randomized controlled study.
A cutting guide technique for patella resurfacing in total knee arthroplasty was expected to result in less patellofemoral syndromes. The aim of this study was to identify differences in the patellofemoral function, clinical outcomes, and radiographic parameters between the freehand and cutting guide patellar resection techniques in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty. ⋯ Cutting guide technique group did not yield lower incidence of anterior knee pain. More outliers of lateral patellar tilt were observed in the freehand technique group. Overall, all patients in both groups had identical results in terms of patellofemoral functional capacity, clinical outcomes, and other radiographic results.

Comparison of clinical results between novel percutaneous pedicle screw and traditional open pedicle screw fixation for thoracolumbar fractures without neurological deficit.
To compare the efficacy and safety of novel percutaneous minimally invasive pedicle screw fixation and traditional open surgery for thoracolumbar fractures without neurological deficit. ⋯ Novel percutaneous pedicle screws with angle reset function can achieve the same effect as traditional open pedicle screw fixation in the treatment of thoracolumbar fractures without nerve injuries. Percutaneous minimally invasive pedicle screw fixation has the characteristics of shorter operative time, less bleeding, and less pain, but it needs more radiation times.

Intra-articular injection of autologous adipose-derived stromal vascular fractions for knee osteoarthritis: a double-blind randomized self-controlled trial.
The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical and radiological efficacy of autologous adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) versus hyaluronic acid in patients with bilateral knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ The results of this study suggest that autologous adipose-derived SVF treatment is safe and can effectively relief pain, improve function, and repair cartilage defects in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Efficacy of oral tranexamic acid on blood loss in primary total hip arthroplasty using a direct anterior approach: a prospective randomized controlled trial.
Tranexamic acid (TXA), delivered intravenously or topically, has been shown to reduce blood loss, the need for transfusion, and relevant healthcare costs when administered in primary standard total hip arthroplasty (THA). Whether the same is true of oral TXA is unclear, the purpose of this study was to determine if oral tranexamic acid is equivalent to intravenous TXA in the case of patients undergoing THA via the direct anterior approach. ⋯ Oral TXA shows similar efficacy and safety as intravenous TXA for reducing haemoglobin drop, haematocrit levels, total blood loss, and transfusion rate following THA by the direct anterior approach. Therefore, the much less-expensive oral formulation may be superior to the intravenous form.
